U.S. NEWS

“Although our intent was to provide a positive and fun experience for teachers, we can see how it appears to be degrading and insulting towards the participating teachers,” the apology stated.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The organizers of a fundraiser that featured teachers on their hands and knees grabbing for dollar bills at a junior hockey league game in South Dakota are apologizing after the event drew criticism.

The “Dash For Cash” Saturday night in Sioux Falls was a competition in which 10 local teachers were selected to collect money for school projects. They had five minutes to collect as many of the 5,000 $1 bills that were spread out on carpet at center ice between periods at the Sioux Falls Stampede’s arena.

Critics on social media called the event demeaning. Loren Paul, president of the South Dakota Education Association, said it showed that the state needs to do better for its teachers and students when it comes to funding education.

How about going to the state legislature Sioux Falls Stampede and CU Mortgage Direct, and demand that the right wing libertatain state government fully fund the events and the schools....

who used to visit Kibutzes in Israel. They’d throw Twenties to see the residents scramble to grab them. Humiliating.

presented it to the teachers in a positive and dignified manner instead of forcing them to literally grovel on the ground. It is nauseating to think about what happened. I am glad they apologized and increased their donation, even if it was just damage control..

Otherwise, one of them would have said "Let's short circuit this. I'll go, pick up all the cash & we'll split it evenly.". Teachers are clever enough to get the cash without degrading themselves.
Yeah, it's a horrible look, but those teachers are smiling & laughing.
Maybe we should ask them if they feel degraded. I'm guessing they don't.

Maybe they were willing to grovel just for the sake of their students - still does not make it all right for the presenters to have engaged in an act of disrespect to other human beings.

But, I substitute since I retired. In 12 different districts. I know lots of teachers, now.
I don't see any of them doing something like this anything but voluntarily.

in Invisible Man. Oh, they would have had a hearty laugh, watching teachers scramble to collect coins from an electrified mat. How much more satisfying, to degrade and humiliate, rather than fund and encourage. Bastards all.
