Some news (for better or worse) about erectile dysfunction/Alzheimer's medication

Viagra, a drug well-known for its ability to treat erectile dysfunction, may soon have a surprising new purpose — preventing Alzheimer’s disease. A study of existing FDA-approved medications has revealed that taking the drug lowered the chances of developing the disease over the next six years by a stunning 69 percent.

Sildenafil — which drug manufacturers label as Viagra for erectile dysfunction and as Revatio for pulmonary hypertension — emerged from a field of over 1,600 FDA-approved drugs as the most promising candidate to battle Alzheimer’s.

I'd like to know how it works for Alzheimer's. I always figured it increased blood flow down below in men, but I don't know how that translates into stopping Alzheimer's, especially if it helps women patients, too. I wonder if they can modify the medicine a little so that it won't cause erections in men. If a man takes it for Alzheimer's prevention, that doesn't necessarily mean he wants an erection, too.

I guess I never gave it serious thought, but I just imagined it causing an erection like blowing up a balloon. But now that I think about it, a drug wouldn't work quite like that.
