As much as we make reference to the oath of office and other contracts which bind Senate and Congress members to serve and protect the Constitution and the Nation, Mitch understands that calculus too.

My own conclusion is he was waiting to see how the chips would fall and how big a disaster TLG had whipped up, assuming that he had power enough to deal with it for himself. Mitch has no honor and would do anything he could get away with to take power himself. He has in fact done so many times.

I believe there are answers he could provide which should be asked for. Questions like when did he know, what did he know, and who did he know that was in on the plot? I have absolutely no doubts at all that he knows significant parts of all of those answers and knew them on the day if not before. He most certainly knows more since that day.
