now to pass voting rights. We should go ahead and change the Senate rule. If Manchin won’t support it, fuck him. Let him vote no on voting rights. We need to force this issue.

bring it to the floor for a vote. I thought I had heard this was an option that might be used to pressure and persuade Manchin to go along with getting rid of the filibuster just for voting rights. If not, guess that’s it. I don’t see him giving in unless he is put on an island all by himself as the lone Democrat opposing democracy, and maybe not even then.

Unless he has 51 votes behind him.

He (or the VP if presiding…or any other presiding officer) can indeed declare that a rule says something other than what has previously been the understanding of that rule. But any single senator can object to that declaration and force a vote of the full senate. Without 51 votes, the rule “change” fails.

Depending on the change… there is reason to believe that Manchin is not the only holdout.
