https://www.damemagazine.com/2021/11/16/legacy-media-is-undermining-vp-kamala-harris/You can be forgiven if you missed the announcement, because headlines, and indeed big news stories about it only appeared in France. In fact, you wouldnt be the only American to have been oblivious to the fact that VP Harris was even in France, let alone what she was doing there. or what she did while she was there. Outside of Twitter, there was almost no reportage of the trip, which was meant to mend fences with France following the Australian submarine deal debacle earlier this year, as well as showcase VP Harris and allow her to hone her foreign policy bona fides for a possible future presidential run, as she has dealt mostly with domestic policy throughout her career.
VP Harris met with global leaders, including outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian President Mario Draghi. French President Emmanuel Macron was charmed by Harristhe two had so much to discuss and got on so well that their respective aides had to get them to wrap up the visit.

(14,577 posts)The general stuff I hear about Harris isn't all that good. But then, she is a woman of color...so that probably explains it. Racism AND sexism are alive and well. It is all ugly, and I will being sending emails to some of the news outlets I have email for and asking why the hell they did not report that.

(113,344 posts)not fit with their ongoing HRC-honed attack on her. I only heard about it here on DU, and even here, I saw very little, except about the cooking pot.

(16,426 posts)That includes every major TV network (cable and broadcast), major and local newspapers, news magazines, and news websites, all of which tweet breaking news stories and commentary with links to the full content on their websites. Individual reporters have their own Twitter accounts as well.
Of course it's not wise to believe everything posted by individuals at Twitter, but there 's plenty of "real" news there.

(61,650 posts)The purchase itself was wise diplomacy. She bought a French cooking pot. The media spun it negatively.

(54,408 posts)I'm in Paris usually once a week for work, for those who don't know.
i explained, by the way, that Macron was expected to be able to handle her on his own, and I only would be called in if he was having difficulty. Apparently he managed just fine on his own

(7,624 posts)And I skipped past the cookware stories as obvious smear framing so I didn't even realize she was in Paris, let alone why.

(58,785 posts)as 1 senator among 100, not head of an important cabinet department, with 1 visit to the WH, before becoming VP to a president with 50 years in DC. Biden liked the potential he saw in her and is doing what he said he would: assigning her a portolio of important tasks that need to be tackled -- with the goal he didn't explicitly state of building her capabilities toward what they need to be.
Merely by being named VP, Harris became a historic figure, but it's worse than unrealistic to expect her to immediately become a historic VP, instead of supporting a historic presidential agenda. We know Biden chose her with the intention of having the kind of presidential relationship with his VP that Obama achieved with him. And she came in intending to fill that position.
The press want her to start running for president so they can make the worst of that. And her fans want that because they think she deserves the attention. If people remember back, though, Biden was not running for president during the Obama presidency. He was doing important work for the president.
Biden's right in giving her a portolio that'll help her in the growing she has to do. It's rah-rah to say she'll make a great president, but remember that during the 2020 primaries she hadn't even developed her own solid position on healthcare -- a top issue for most of the nation!, extremely surprising and an appalling jaw-dropper to me. No doubt she's been learning and developing ever since, but she has a long way to go before she emerges as the very strong, substantial, competent candidate for president we and the nation need her to be. Not appearance, substance.
In the meantime, I'd ignore the mean, critical press headlines. Most of their agendas not only have nothing to do with good government but are already actively working to defeat Democratic candidates in 2022 and 2024, absolutely specifically VP Harris. Don't buy their premises, ever! If they can, they'll defeat her before she declares for the primaries. The most honest thing about critical headlines is that the articles will deliver on their promise.
Fwiw, I'd look for articles that offer some insight into what's, you know, real and really happening. Unfortunately, ,any of the best are not free.
But also look for understanding the people involved. When you know the people, you understand what their goals must be in spite of critical lack of information and all the mental shrapnel and smoke and mirrors thrown up to deceive. Way too many people bought the premises long ago and have no idea who the names are. And many of Harris's fans will fall victim even while others are becoming interested in her.

(36,095 posts)they can get people to think there ARE NO ACTIONS, and therefore set up low numbers on job performance and approval polls. Which is what BOTH Biden and Harris are experiencing right now in spite of all they have done to restore this nation's domestic health and economy, and international standing.
We need to keep a running list of VP Harris' activities and attack major print and televised media who fail to cover her. We can depend on them to print all attacks against her by others, and never give her positive news coverage. This -- the anchor bias setup, along with other cognitive biases against her domestic and international work -- is the same long term tack that media took with Hillary Clinton.

(2,962 posts)President Biden cannot be everywhere.
Since President Obama the role of VP has changed.
Also she could become the President very quickly if something was to happen.
The world's leaders need to know her.
Also I think the press is down playing her because she is a woman.
VP Harris deserves the respect due to her office
