It is 66 degrees

on our way to the mid 70's today. Wind is blowing, high wind warning as we are expecting winds of 70+ MPH. Unusual weather and high winds are not an odd thing really here in NE Kansas but this is way beyond what we normally expect as odd.

Maybe this is the year that those who still deny climate change will rethink things.

Everything has abruptly changed around here. Our birds are different, the weather is insane and it feel absolutely like the scary spring weather we used to have but no longer have much of.

There are buds on my cottonwood trees and the grass is greening up. At this moment all I can think of is, it feels like tornado weather....in December. I used to think, in the way back when nobody took climate change as anything but crazy talk, that it would be nice to have these temps all year round.

It's weird. It definitely feels like spring. Wind is blowing something around that's irritating my allergies.
Expecting thunderstorms later. Had a "flock" of robins in the neighbor's tree a couple of days ago. I've never seen that many together, before. A couple of days before that, all three of my "big" trees in the back were FULL of black birds. Despite the very cool factor, it's a little ominous.

Calling for the 50s up to Xmas day.

the big tree outside the window where I sit was full of birds. The last few years have been scant for us bird watchers. I grabbed my binoculars and discovered the tree was full of starlings. I don't hate them like some do but they were the first I have seen this year, then tucked into that flock were robins. I had seen only one robin this last spring until now. My place has a large pond and 3 other small ponds and I have let the woods grow into several large plots so some of the birds can be hidden unless I go look for them. I have a lone Osprey right now, 2 months after the migration comes through here.

I had mixed feelings about the movement of Tornado Alley. While nobody wants a tornado they were a part of my whole life including living through the 1966 F5 that went from just SW of town all the way through lifting only after passing the far NE of town. I kinda miss the feelings that go along with the weather but the changes are beneficial in that point. Tornados are not fun, as you know!

Hope you all stay well. One of my sons lives in KCMO with his family, the other in Lawrence right now because it is between his day job and his music jobs. I worry about all of you when it gets strange, so Stay Safe!

away from home for a thing with a friend and we stood outside and watched it go through. We were in a good vantage place (we snuck out), not too far from it actually and we ended up seeing about 7 tornados that evening just by looking around where we were. Manhattan was also clobbered by a tornado or 2 that night.

When I started going to WU there were still classes in mobiles and the trees were still mangled. At least there was a new music building where I spent most of my time but the marks were still all over the place.

They scare off all the other birds and freak out my cats.

I grew up in Chicago. Plenty of tornadoes "around" there, but none that I can remember ever actually touching ground.

We've had some devastating tornadoes around here in KC the past few years. One that hit last year actually leap-frogged over my neighborhood. I was frantically trying to track down my two cats.

With the weirdness in the weather...everyone needs to be safe. Tornadoes, hurricanes, fires...nature is just all around pissed off at us.

BUT...we've had some gorgeous sunrises and sunsets lately!

My daughter travels to schools in the Midwest to prepare nursing students to pass their boards and invited me to join her while she is at work at U of MO - STL this week. We had the best bbq at a little place called Sugar… something last night on the recommendation of a local, and when we left the restaurant it felt like a balmy spring evening.
I’m heading to the art museum this afternoon. I’ve been told that it is well worth the visit.
We went atop the Arch two days ago. The ride was a bit creepy, but worth the experience.

Not a fan of elevators, so assume that a bunch of strangers don't want to live through my hysterics. LOL!!!

It sounds like your daughter has an interesting and important job! You must be proud...especially when she shows you off around "her" neighborhood!

I'm guessing that BBQ place you went to is around STL. One of my favorites in KC is Q39; out by my kid's house there's a little place called Jazzy B's that is just over the top amazing. They have a blueberry bbq sauce that is just phenomenal.

The Nelson Atkins Museum is wonderful! I still can't figure out the giant shuttlecocks, though. I still need to get back there to revisit their Asian section after they've remodeled/refreshed.

HAVE FUN!!! Missouri is a beautiful state with a Republican problem. (We're working on that)

below zero , with highs in the teens and twenties when I was growing up. A neighbor made an ice skating rink in a vacant lot for the neighborhood kids and we used to ice skate , sled.

Now it seems like the weather is more like where I live in NC. It gets down in the 20's and 30's at night and 50's during the day.

This is so odd for Kansas. And scary.

If I had my druthers I would be living in Tortola, hurricane or no hurricane. THAT is my idea of an ideal existence. I do envy you the mountains though. And it won't last long. Will probably get back to normal in a few days which is highs in the low 60s and lows in the mid 50s. And it's always so sunny and clear after a good rainfall like we had yesterday!

About 10 years ago it was below freezing and very windy for several nights in a row and I lost a few ficus trees due to the cold.

I am working in the horse barn and the wind is wicked. I don't think it is anything unusual yet. Tornado watches close but not here. The coolest thing was that my fence and gate for the horses to get to pasture were covered from bottom to over the top with large, dry bushes. I had to move all that, just like in a wild west movie.
