This week in my 13 year old's school

they are having their first ever active shooter drill. We're in a small town, neither of my other boys who graduated from this school had to do them.

Also, we got a letter to let us know that a kid in one of his classes has Covid.

Luckily, he is fully vaccinated. He wears a mask daily as well, not because I told him to, but because he thinks it is safer.

But, he's a little wigged out by the scheduled drill.

As an adult I'd be wigged out by such a drill. n/t Yonnie3 Dec 2021 #1

Yeah, I think that's worse than the bomb drills they used to have. Haggard Celine Dec 2021 #3
So why do we need such drills? AndyS Dec 2021 #4

A few days ago, a mother off her meds, who no longer has custody of her kids - began ramming vehicles in line for school pickup because she was pissed at teachers. Kids were all freaked out and police arrived within a minute. Full time police woman will be at school starting next week. The school is having a hard time getting substitute teachers - and has to close sometimes when teachers get sick. Our mayor just posted on Facebook that 2 of our restaurants can’t open because they cannot find staff to work and called on the young in our community to please apply at restaurants.

We never really believed there would be a bomb and besides, hiding under the desk wouldn't do much good if someone had set off a nuclear weapon near us. But the threat of school shooters is all too real, and the kids should be afraid of it happening. If they're afraid, it makes then more aware of people with problems and more likely to find help for them. It really sucks that children have to go through all of that, though.

really angry that there are people like that around.

And there seem to be more of them every day.

shooting unfold on MSNBC with my 3 year old grand daughter in my lap and my two elementary age grand sons in school nearby.

There aren't more of them, they're just louder, more obnoxious and more dangerous. Half of the new guns added to society are owned by 3% of gun owners. That works out to about 60 guns per 3percenter.
