"Don't think this one has fully sunk in yet: A member of Congress suggested ..."

SpeakerOfTheHat Retweeted

Don't think this one has fully sunk in yet: A member of Congress suggested that GOP-controlled states anoint Trump electors **before those states were even called.**

This wasn't overturning the election. This was scrapping democracy before the votes were even counted.

Marge, Boebert and Gozer (I know, but right?) couldn’t write that many words without spelling mistakes. Nor could they think that through.

50$ on Gaetz. $25 on Gym.

All it says is electors shall be appointed "in such manner as the Legislature thereof may direct." The popular vote isn't even mentioned.

Right now, most states have laws in place defining how the popular vote applies and how electors are chosen. Republicans are attacking that system frontally, both through gerrymandering and through re-assigning how electors are chosen and allocated.

The Governor has final say in the appointment of electors, not the legislature (unless the legislature acts before the election and takes that power away from the Governor, and he/she agrees to sign the bill making it law),

and state election laws unconstitutional. The Constitution in its strictest interpretation gives state legislatures the absolute right to select electors.

SCOTUS has already ruled ECA constitutional, with governor certified slates of electors being the only official ones to be counted.

https://verdict.justia.com/2020/09/30/no-republicans-cannot-throw-the-presidential-election-into-the-house-so-that-trump-wins

The conservative justices on the court have a loyalty to their ideology, not to Trump himself.

They ruled against Trump in his 2020 challenges, and I expect they would do so again.

The article you cited is dated 9/30/20 and Barrett was sworn in 10/27/20.

The anti-democratic and anti-majoritarian strain within conservatism is strong and did not begin with Trump.

They desperately want an apartheid style system where a conservative white minority rules with an iron fist, and IMO will use whatever tortured logic they can to get there. The recent ruling on the Texas anti-choice bounty law shows us that 5 of them don't care about precedent, legitimacy or even basic logic.

Then they decided, "F*ck it. We'll just suppress voting, gerrymander like hell, and cry 'election fraud' whenever a Democrat wins. Also we'll harass election officials and workers out of their jobs and replace them with our own stooges while we wink at Republicans who vote more than once".

So far the new strategy seems to be working.

I read today (12/17) that the text came from Rick Perry's phone (he denies it).
The same conservative group claims that the text originated from them. They have claimed it was sent to several people sympathetic to their cause. Their original claim that Gym Jordan forwarded it still stands but CNN is reporting Rick Perry sent it...they all lie, so who knows 🤔
