Prior to bringing it to the surface, Rick & Marty invited American & Canadian Government officials for the
unveiling along with dozens of well known Evangelicals who they felt would guide them on how to properly
handle such an important artifact. Everyone agreed that since it was a Jewish artifact, 4 Rabbis would lift the
top off to reveal hopefully the original 10 Commandments. What they found surprised everyone because
there was not 10 but 12 official Commandments which Evangelicals immediately called "The Big Lie"

I think your post is perfect.

(1,782 posts)know about and are fascinated with that story, I'm one of them admittedly. I'm an odd one out though, but I did hear about oak island in the same way those older than me did.
When I was a little kid, I would stay at my grandparents house during the daytime, and grandma had a massive cache of old Readers Digest. I would spend a lot of time reading them, even though they were decades old. Like so many others, I read the tale of oak island in the readers digest, and I'm still convinced there is something there. It really got into my head as a little boy, it makes your imagination run wild.
The show drives me nuts though, and I especially can't stand that narrator. I managed through 2 seasons of it at first until I said enough. It's a reality show delayed by half a year. I'll see it in the news long before i will on that show if they ever actually find anything

(15,124 posts)So I guess there is something there.
From what I have seen, they spend and entire hour with lots of "stay tuned" enticements, only to announce that they scooped up a tablespoon of sand that seems old.
It's a good thing we have two televisions in our house.

(1,782 posts)pretty well, that's why I gave up watching it. They have to spend days and weeks working to come up with 10 minutes of excitement, so they just fill in the hour with "OMG we found a nail!"
The story itself is quite fascinating though. I won't go so far as to insist there is treasure buried there, but there almost certainly seems to be something. I've always insisted that had I found treasure there 100 years ago, there's no way in hell I'd every tell anyone about it, so who knows if there is even anything left there.
One part of the story from the show is of a black guy and freed slave who moved up there and bought a few plots on that island to farm cabbage, and he ultimately died as the richest guy in that region when he was old. I'm not so sure you get that rich selling cabbage, so yea, fill in the blanks I suppose.

(2,860 posts)Before my dog passed away, his dog and my dog were friends and we would walk together. His name is Gary and he's British and does metal detecting. He was gone for half the year up in Canada filming the show. During the winter he came back down to south Florida. I moved a couple of years ago, but it wasn't too far away. I saw him in the grocery store last winter. He's a very funny man. Always quick with a joke.

(41,986 posts)I looked for a gift for him and found several books on the history of that whole thing. That island has been treasure hunters obsession for a very long time.

(6,240 posts)So Mel Brooks lied to us? In the movie, Moses drops one of the three original tablets on the way down from the mountain, leaving only two and therefore the Ten Commandments we know.
And Steven Spielberg lied too when he said the Ark was taken to that government warehouse?
Darn it all, who can you trust nowadays???????

If they ever really found treasure, they'd rebury it to keep the grift going.

(21,360 posts)It's quite informative historically. I could care less how much money they make. I don't watch that much TV but I watch Oak Island.
I worked in New Brunswick a couple of times, cold water lobster is the best. They grow their own and brew their own there too.

(17,259 posts)3 years ago they dug that 6 or 8 foot diameter hole down 100 feet or so with that permanent casing, and the
last show of that season the History Channel announcer said "tune in next year for the FINAL season as we
reveal what Rick & Marty found" Well that never happened, History Chan. doesn't want to let go of a money
making show and I assume they made the brothers an offer that was hard to turn down to keep their mouths
shut. Yes, whenever they reveal what they found the show is over.
