(3,167 posts)I can't stand the man, and I don't know what he wants.
The only thing he is good for right now is that he does give us control of the Senate. Without him, that would be gone. He also votes for Biden's nominees, and he's voted for every other piece of legislation that has passed. If his seat were held by a crazy GQPer, there would never be any votes from that person for Dem bills.
That's about it, though.

(3,282 posts)Basically everything that Biden has accomplished is possible because Joe Manchin holds a seat in the most red state in the nation. But that's it.
Of course since he's also not to the left of AOC he get nothing but hate here.

(3,167 posts)Look, I get it. The Democratic Party has room for people of vastly different beliefs. My main beef with Manchin is that he wont keep his mouth shut. He is basically bad-mouthing his own party, constantly. What does the man want? Hell never say.
Up until after January 2021, Sinema and Manchin were barely talked about here compared to the almost non-stop hate I have seen (since I joined DU in summer 2018) directed here against AOC, Sanders, and the other Squad members, as well as other progs at times. TBF, most of that comes from a small group who are organised, loud, repetitive, and relentless, but it is far longer in duration.
Overall this board is hardly LW progressive dominated, certainly not since I have been around.
No one expects Manchin or Sinema to be anywhere near AOC ideologically, but FFS, when it is just those TWO against Biden, Harris and basically ALL of the rest of our Dem caucus (SO 272 versus 2), of course they are going to get stick, especially on two HUGE things like the BBB and the voter rights/protection bills.
You think it's really just those two?
Manchin has always been a shield for other democrats who don't want to vote for something but also don't want to take that public stance.
Besides that, let's see someone say anything close to the things that are said about Manchin on this site without getting posts removed and banned. There's a rule on this site about not bashing Democratic public figures....but that never applies to posts about Manchin.

(7,509 posts)Manchin's political career is FINISHED if he switches parties.
Trumpanzees won't vote for someone who voted to convict 45 twice. He would be immediately primaries.
What we should have done is hold BIF, make Manchinema vote up or down on a $3.5 trillion BBB, and dare them to defy Biden's agenda and the entire Democratic caucus.
They only behave badly because we didn't draw the line.
