Out of all the chain restaurants, why have the anti-vaxxers decided that Cheesecake Factory is going to be their battleground?

(7,864 posts)Two employees who made "disparaging remarks" about a customer's "Make America Great Again" cap are no longer employed at The Cheesecake Factory, the company said Wednesday. However, the casual-dining chain believes the incident is being blown out of proportion.
The widely publicized episode at a Cheesecake Factory restaurant in Miami occurred on Sunday, with a Daily Wire report quoting multiple witnesses as saying that the customer, Eugenior Joseph, had been surrounded by about a dozen Cheesecake employees. Joseph told the conservative news site that one employee tried to physically intimidate him, while others were "screaming things at me."

(4,616 posts)Sounds about right for a loud mouthed MAGA coward. Surrounded by a dozen employees huh. So all business there stopped to "intimidate" this snowflake? LOL

(15,428 posts)I was a server in 2004. I saw customers with Bush pins and Kerry shirts. I didn't argue with them, I just said "Welcome to Applebees, may I start you with a drink." Actually I'm lying. I said "nice shirt" to the ones with Kerry shirts, but didn't argue with the Bush people.

(54,403 posts)I am always suspicious about reports about just who started out harassing whom. The staff at those places, at least the ones I have been to, have high volume and high pressure jobs, and have always been friendly and absolutely well-behaved. I'm sure they get strict training, and I'm sure they take it seriously, because the tips they run up there, with that volume, must be substantial. A customer would have to really have to make an effort to provoke one of them (let alone more than one) in order for a job-endangering dispute to flare up.
Not knowing anything about this particular incident, just knowing what the staff there was like, if I had to place odds on who was giving an accurate account of what happened, I would place zero on the Maggot, and 100% on the employees.

(7,412 posts)One employee threatened to punch him in the head hard enough to knock the hat off and another stood behind the victim punching a balled fist into his own hand. Multiple witnesses and a video supposedly confirmed it happened. It was also claimed and corroborated by multiple witnesses that the N-word was used by the employees towards the hat wearer, who is Black.
I don't really care either way but if they fired them then there was probably some merit to the accusations.

I don't personally know any Cheesecake Factory staff so I can't speak to that lol.

(54,403 posts)That is only Dallas and Tyson's Corner, VA (DC area). Miami might as well be Tibet for all I know about it. I haven't even set foot in the place in over 30 years.

if the hat wearer, in fear their life from the threat of a beating, pulled out a gun and stopped the threat? The servers were threatening a beating. That isnt being a big meanie. That is a threat over political clothes.
Going around threatening to assault people over their clothes is a bad idea. Going around assaulting people in general is a bad idea. If they get shot, tough shit. The assaulters are the criminals, not the ones wearing the stupid red hats.
It isnt legal to assault someone for wearing a MAGA hat. It is legal for the one getting assaulted or about to get assaulted to take care of the criminal permanently so as the victim is not killed or seriously injured from the criminal who wishes to do them harm over their clothes.
If we make a habit of attacking people for wearing stupid red hats, then they will start carrying a gun and just wait for someone dumb enough to throw a punch. A trap. The hat is the hook, the criminals hatred for the hat is the line, and the stand your ground is the sinker.
Hook, line and sinker. Forcing those that want to punch a MAGA to ask, is this the one that pulls out a gun for me attacking them because I am a terrorist that attacks people for political clothes I dont like?

(15,428 posts)As pointed out about, I was a server in 2004. I saw Bush shirts and pins. I didn't say "Your candidate is a war criminal." But when I saw Kerry shirts, I said "Great shirt." That's different, because it's not causing any potential argument.

Now I'm there about twice a year and order that same plate every time.

(54,403 posts)They list the calories on each meal. There are quite a few dishes I WOULD have liked to try, but got scared off by the calorie count. Their low-cal menu (skinny-licious) is already massive.
The few dishes I've had have been actually decent for a chain with a menu that big. Their Miso Salmon is good enough for me to have tried it more than once. The hot freshly baked black bread they put at your table is dangerous. It is so good, if they don't take your order quickly, you won't be hungry any more by the time you are asked to place it.
I've never once experienced any conflict between customers and staff. They were working their asses off every time I've been to one of those places (admittedly, a year can go by before I'm even in the neighborhood). I rather doubt that twelve of them had the time to go talk to any one customer except when they gather to wish one a happy birthday. The staff was universally friendly every time I have been to one, whether in Dallas or Washington. To piss them off, the Maggot would have to have started out being an asshole on his own first--something I am given to understand is not an unusual occurrence, no matter where you go in the USA, these days.
