why not break it up so that each program is in an individual bill? Then bring up each bill for a vote.

(7,509 posts)Was BECAUSE it got broken down from BIF in the first place.
Plus you can't do reconciliation on a whole slew of bills.

(6,008 posts)Gotta pack it all in a single bill in order to use reconciliation to get it past the filibuster.

(16,089 posts)It's popular with the American people...not the senate Republicans!
And without any support from the Republicans it would have to be done under reconciliation...and Manchin would still join the Republicans and vote against those bills!!!
Of course that would put both Manchin and Sinema on the record...along with every Republican senator...something that the Democrats might be able to use in 2022!

Changing the voting procedures will not change that fact.

(1,677 posts)Make the Repukes have to physically filibuster EVERY SINGLE BILL until the cows come home. If they want to talk ad nauseam for eternity to stop help to Americans, then put it in their court. Let the 6 'O'Clock News Hour show the clowns obstructing assistance every single day without anything getting done.

(25,263 posts)That's actually Bernie's strategy with respect to Manchin.
It would work equally well if employed against the Repugs as well.
Good idea - push through the various parts of BBB - piecemeal. Get the traitors on record.

BBB is currently a reconciliation bill, which means it can pass with a simple majority.
