Supporters of former President Donald Trump booed and jeered when he announced on Sunday that he had received a COVID-19 booster shot and was in favor of the vaccine.
Trump made the comments during an appearance on the former Fox News host Bill O'Reilly's "History Tour." Newsweek first reported on the remarks.
At the tour, Trump noted that the COVID-19 vaccine was developed under his administration as part of Operation Warp Speed. "Look, we did something that was historic, we saved tens of millions of lives worldwide when we, together, all of us, we got a vaccine done," Trump said.
"This was going to ravage the country far beyond what it is right now, take credit for it," Trump said. "It's great, what we've done is historic. Don't let them take it away."

Someone probably told him that the virus is killing off his base..

(115,899 posts)Even their Dear Leader isn't crazy enough for them. Of course everything TFG did and does is performative; he doesn't really believe in anything except himself. (I don't think he even truly believes he won the election, but he wants very much to be president again and hates like hell to be seen as a loser, which is why he's perpetrating the Big Lie.) He'll take the vaccine and the booster and whatever else he needs to keep his fat ass ambulatory enough for golf, but his nutball constituency actually believes all the bullshit and now they're farther off the rails than he is.

(3,262 posts)I maintain that he ran merely to raise his own profile and parlay it into a TV show, book deal, political news network, etc. It was a marketing stunt from the word go. Then he "won" and said, "Oh shit." It's plain that he was never interested in actually being President, and he hated the actual work involved and ducked it at every opportunity. And Melania clearly had no desire whatsoever to have anything to do with being First Lady.
I agree that he wants to get back in the Oval Office to remove the stench of defeat, though. In Trumpworld, the worst thing you can be is a loser. No doubt he's also keen to take revenge on... well, damn near everyone. The list of people he doesn't want revenge on is probably shorter.

(4,400 posts)of his deeds, never mind, given what scientists now know about disease, that he's the globe's most proficient mass murderer, in my lifetime, since Oppenheimer's acknowledgement that "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds" by a "gain of function" working weapon of mass destruction, splitting the atom. I won't argue the inconclusive research about the origins of SARSCoV2 - just that TFG was the ringleader and likely the most responsible in our nation for his cult's divisive opportunity to increase its deadly spread.
