Manchin says he still sees himself as a Democrat even after thwarting Build Back Better plan

West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin said Monday that he still considers himself a Democrat even after he defied his party by torpedoing a key piece of President Joe Biden's domestic agenda.

In a wide-ranging interview with West Virginia Radio, Manchin, a moderate and key swing vote in the Senate, was asked whether there is still a place for him in the party, to which he replied, "Well, I think."

"I would like to hope that there are still Democrats that feel like I do. ... I'm socially -- I'm fiscally responsible and socially compassionate," he said. "Now, if there's no Democrats like that, then they'll have to push me wherever they want me."

Manchin announced Sunday that he could not support Biden's Build Back Better plan, a sweeping economic and climate bill that required his support in order for it to pass in the Senate, where Democrats have an ultra-slim majority. The move stoked widespread outrage among progressives, many of whom questioned his allegiance to the party and wondered if he might drop his affiliation after he thwarted one of Democrats' major legislative priorities.

4. If we get his vote to alter the fillibuster for voting rights, it would be somewhat redeeming.

He has seemed to be coming around on this. And I have a feeling he actually believes in doing it. But we've seen this rigmarole before

Also I don't see Sinema going against Manchin, and Manchin has already been signaling he may be ready to make an exception (ya know, like he did with BBB for almost an entire year).

Again. Not holding my breath...

For Manchin to make his announcement on Fox, it was a big middle finger to Democrats. There’s more to this story.

10. So what's the takeaway with all his complexes??

Don’t attack red state people from the left. It doesn’t work and gives them an excuse to tune out.

The opposite is generally true, also. California governor was attacked from the right in a blue state and he overwhelmingly survived. Blue state people aren’t going to buy the GOP poison.

Dianne Feinstein was attacked from the left during her re-election and she survived in a blue state.

Besides the takeaway that he’s a jerk, quit giving him excuses to cop out.

The Malevolent Spirit is usually the spirit or soul of an evil person who wanted to harm a person that is weak or wants revenge on the living.
