My daughter and her fiancé flew in from L.A. for the holidays and they're staying with us. She started getting a sore throat and sure enough, tested positive! So she's quarantined in one room and we've cancelled Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day with the rest of the family. So I guess we'll be singing "Have Yourself a Shitty Little Christmas."

(31,044 posts)That sucks!
I had to cancel my nephew's visit on Xmas Eve. We haven't seen him in 2 years, but he refuses to get vaccinated. "I got the first one and it made me sick, so I'm not getting anymore". We're sure going to miss him....

(30,676 posts)celebrations to be shitty. A little bit.
But enjoy your isolation. It might be saving your life.
We are all in this together, no matter what it may seem.
Happy New year, at least.

Supposedly that would not happen in late December.

(2,895 posts)last weekend, and they had a test at the airport in London the morning of the flight (has to be a PCR or comparable test within 24 hours of the flight), and they wore N95s on the flight. They have been staying away from us in another city at my younger daughter's college apt. (everyone gone for the holidays), and will take a PCR test this afternoon before joining the family... but I'm having them wear N95, KN95 or KF94 masks inside for the next three days and continue to take home tests. I've been having my younger daughter (the one home from college) take home tests and wear a mask inside, too, when we are all together. (We have a kind of apartment downstairs where she's been staying, and where her brother will stay.) She is taking a PCR test today. I really regret agreeing to my son coming home during this shit show. It just unfolded so quickly, but we should have called it off, for his sake and everyone else 's (in our family and not). He and his fiancee were able to get boosters before departure, and the rest of us have them, too, so at least there's that...

I did this when a fully vaccinated family member got a breakthrough infection this past summer. I slept in another room next to a open window with a fan venting out. I kept the house ventilated. We wore double masks upstairs when delivering food and drinks to his door. No one else got sick.
Good luck.

(80 posts)Everyone is sick with COVID. She's been exposed several times. It was a mutual decision. We'll reschedule in the spring.

(22,742 posts)We're making the best of it. Providing room service and using FaceTime. She's quarenteening with her fiancé. Plus she has her iPhone, iPad, and we're going to hook up a tv for her. It's kind of fun to spoil our baby!
So far, she only has a store throat. Hopefully, the worse is over.
