(1,569 posts)ABC is part of a corporation. That corp. makes money by getting people to watch. They will hire anyone and have them say anything to get people to watch. They exist for one reason only--to profit from selling airtime to advertisers who pay according to how many watch. It isn't complex, it isn't a conspiracy, it is simply what the corporation was created to do. Once you know that, you realize that the "news" really doesn't matter to them, your reaction is all that matters.
I still like newspapers for news, because although they have much the same goal, they have tons more capacity for ideas (one feature article contains more info than an hour TV newscast). They also meet their goal once you drop the quarters in the box, subscribe, or grab it off the newsstand. Yes, they sensationalize headlines, yes, many take ideological stands that color news coverage, but they also go way deeper than the sound bites you see on TV.
