Christmas Eve is now a fireworks occasion, also?

Is this going on elsewhere? When I moved to this area 29 years ago, there were no amateur fireworks on the Fourth of July. Now not only are there fireworks on the Fourth, but a few years ago they started on New Year’s Eve. And tonight they’re being set off for Christmas Eve. I feel sorry for people with dogs.

And yeah they love ‘em. It seems to be more of a US thing along the border though, on the other side of the river too many people would be terrified that it’s a balacera. And firework stands have picked up on this phenomenon (hell they probably encouraged it), they’re all open before Christmas now.

Fortunately my dogs seem little phased by them, but I’ve had dogs in the past that had to come in the house they were such a nervous wreck. The only thing they hated worse was a bad thunderstorm.

Just have fireworks on Easter, Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. For Christmas Eve this year, it’s drag racing commencing at 2 a.m. down regular streets. It’s going on now at 3 a.m.

Fireworks serve no purpose other than a fleeting snap, crackle and pop.

They harm wildlife, household pets and people with PTSD.

And usually people in this town will use any excuse to set them off. Our dog Dolby doesn't like them.
Oscar used to hate them but has lost most of his hearing so they don't bother him anymore. Sorry you're having to deal with it.

Apparently, there's no such thing as a solemn occasion any more. What's next? Fireworks on Good Friday and Easter? Veterans Day? Maybe funerals?

All the booms sounded exactly the same, and when they ended, at about 12:10 A.M., there were no other sounds in the distance. It only takes one lout to disturb tens of thousands of people.

A professional display, about 9 blocks away, and he's still firing off mortars.

He told me of how he'd worked for weeks one hot summer as conscripted labor on his grandfather's farm to earn a quarter dollar. He then walked six miles one way to the store to spend his earnings. He saw a firecracker he could afford and bought it. Taking it out into the parking lot he and his cousins lit the fuse. POW!. They then walked the six miles back to the farm to continue working.

His final verdict was... Not worth it. Better to buy candy.

of thousands of people at 11 P.M. on Christmas Eve, some of them worshipping, some sleeping, some exhausted, some sick, some dying, many elderly, many with pets terrified by the noise.. What could be more self-evident than that? There are many ways of celebrating traditionally and appropriately that do not dusturb masses of other people.
