The NYPD rookie caught on tape giving her lieutenant a bawdy lap dance at their precinct holiday party apologized to her boss and his wife as she insisted that the video wouldnt have gone viral had it been a man doing it.
I feel like just because, mainly Im a female, dressed the way I was, being a rookie things were different, Vera Mekuli told TMZ. Had it been a man doing it, I feel like it would have been more of a joking matter and it would have stayed in-house versus go public the way it did with me.
Mekuli, 26, had no knowledge her superior was married and is truly sorry for the consequences of the lap dance, which prompted police brass to reassign 44th Precinct Lt. Nick McGarry to subway patrol, she said.

(22,920 posts)I dont think gender was a factor in this going public. That was no joke and was pretty raunchy for such an occasion, imo. Wowzer about her and her boss thinking that was no big deal (or not caring). 😳

See, it's not the objectifying of women as sexpots that's troubling and wrong, it's the "cancel culture" that discriminates against women who want to be treated as sex objects that's the problem.
It's kind of a sad commentary, but take Lauren Boebert for example. We think it's disgusting that she met her husband by him flashing his junk at her.
Problem is, there are a shit ton of Americans that say; "what's wrong with that? That's how I met my husband"
I think we're multiple generations away from when that attitude dies out...if ever.

(1,364 posts)When I was younger, I made it a point to skip Christmas parties. By the way, when your "family values" workplace decides to throw a Christmas party without invited the "family", it is an excuse to get drunk and have, wanted or unwanted, sexual contact with co-workers.

The nypost is sleazy too, don't they have a page 6 girl like some of the lobrow London Rag Tabloids?
And going to the guy's house to photograph his wife and reporting on her fit of rage at the reporter like that is newsworthy?

(15,235 posts)Ideally the rules should always be the same.
In reality, as a male, I would not at all object to an unasked-for lap dance from that woman, and could never imagine getting upset that my consent wasn't requested first.

(1,364 posts)both consenting adults, it created a hostile work environment for others, hence, the release of the video. They should both be fired creating a hostile work environment, immediately (Zero Tolerance).

office party. Inhibitions relax, judgment slips, and women are the ones most likely to find their career damaged. Thats just the way it is.
She is absolutely right about the double standard.

If you want to party, go to a party given by friends, not co-workers.

She said they felt like hostages sitting there all afternoon. They couldn't leave, couldn't complain, and just did not want to be there. Some bosses are idiots.
