... we are going to be hearing Evangelicals, and other assorted and sundry Christians, loudly denouncing Donnie-T Junior for his remarks encouraging his daddy's supporters to ignore the teachings of Jesus Christ because they "haven't gotten them anywhere".
I am sure that the passing of collection plates will be suspended in churches across the nation this week, as pastors replace the usual money haul with fiery sermons about how telling Christians to dismiss Christ as a failed saviour is a step too far that must be retaliated against in no uncertain terms.
Mega-churches will be filled with hordes of angry parishioners, televangelists will broadcast their fury, "Christian leaders" will flood mainstream media shows in order to denounce the political party that is using the words of the Prince of Peace to ridicule him as a know-nothing peacenik, who should have gone into his step-dad's carpentry business and kept his mouth shut about politics.
Yes, the voices of Christians denouncing Donnie-T Junior will be loud - just as loud as they were when they denounced Daddy-Donald for NOT caring for the sick, NOT sheltering the homeless, NOT feeding the hungry, and NOT treating our fellow citizens as the brothers we were meant to hold in our keeping.
One would have thought creating a golden image of Trump to worship (and take selfies with) would be the last straw for Bible-thumpers - but apparently there is no last straw.
Any minute now, we will hear so-called Christian leaders telling their flocks that Jesus was actually a Judas Goat, whose only real purpose was to lead faithful sheep to the slaughterhouse.
(Edited to add: I thought it was obvious - apparently it wasn't)

(27,818 posts)... but it seems to me that sacrificing everything you proclaimed to believe in in exchange for three SCOTUS judges was never a good deal.

(7,839 posts)I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.
It is a first class tragedy that the people of the Earth who claim to believe in he message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practise.
..
The past fascist Christians of India not much different than the current fascist Christians of America, just a turn of the wheel of time.

(575 posts)tfg & his family have said and done that ran contrary to their purported values and beliefs. I don't know why this would be a wake up call for them if they didn't hear any of the others.

I find that André Gide's quote is more spot on than ever: "Believe those who seek the truth. Doubt those who find it."

(6,265 posts)are hypocrites and liars. They believe God sent donald to them to lead us all back to the path of Christian morality. They are probably right. Their God did. I wonder how many 'christians' were in the thousands that tried to overthrow a duly legally elected POTUS on 1/6/21. How many are still trying?? One reason I left organized religion many, many years ago. Hateful, racist bigots.
