General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsA partial list of situations I consider embarrassingly ridiculous:
---no proof of vaccination (POV) is required to board a plane, train or bus;
---no POV is required in order to work in any healthcare facility including nursing homes;
---no POV is required to attend or work in a school in any capacity;
---wearing a mask marks me as a "liberal snowflake" in my community;
---people who know they have covid and intentionally mingle with others are not arrested and charged with assault;
As I mentioned, a "partial" list.

(81,459 posts)--wearing a mask marks me as a "liberal snowflake" in my community;
Make that a SMART, HEALTHY, PROUDLY-masked, WELL-protected WELL-INFORMED, REALITY-BASED liberal snowflake. And what does that make YOU, conservative knuckle-dragger conspiracy-theory-swallowing idiot SNOWFLAKE???

I don't want the GOP wearing mask in the 7th district.
It means Tom Malinowski might have a chance of winning his seat again - after the Trenton Sacrifice of our district.
Shhhh - don't tell the GOP that we expect them to do it to themselves.

(1,913 posts)IMO, we live in a culture where many have a subconscious desire for elders to die - either to
eliminate their dependency on us - or to get access to estate monies. It seems obvious to me and
I haven't heard anyone talk about it - maybe hitting too close to the truth?
How much wealth has been placed in the hands of beneficiaries due to the death of
predominantly older persons and those (maybe younger) but with co-morbidities.

And theses billionaires use their wealth against us every single day.

(2,863 posts)I would say that more than half the people that I saw were not wearing masks. Even though Florida is basically a red state now, the area where I live near Ft Lauderdale is mostly blue. We are supposed to wear our masks for others, not ourselves. A mask doesn't do one much good if no one else is wearing one. People have confused 'freedom' with 'selfishness' these days. I'm fully vaccinated and boosted or I would not have gone out at all. I guess I'll have to stay home and order things online until this blows over. It could take years.

(10,207 posts)Will help the wearer too. Double masking also helps the wearer from other people's germs but I'm not sure how much.
If you are looking at protecting yourself from idiots who know they are infected blissfully spreading it to you, try one of the above masks.

(2,863 posts)My wife works at a medical lab and swabs people for covid. She brings them home. I just wish that people would come together and try and help each other out more. I think one would need to wear a face shield too. I'm not sure if it's true, but I have heard that you can catch the virus through your eyes if an infected person breathes in your general direction. Scary times!

(19,204 posts)From all the chatter on DU I expected a blockbuster of a movie.
I got bored and fell asleep. It was way over the top. Theater and movies are about the temporary suspension of disbelief. I couldn't suspend my disbelief that much.

(10,207 posts)The president is soooooo much like Trump and her son is very similar to Donny Jr.
Then near the end the "don't look up" crowd are the science deniers pretending there is no pandemic, there is no global warming, there is no crashing, stagnant capitalism.
So true to reality it is sad.

(10,749 posts)Stopped at a gas station today. Went in wearing my kn-95 mask. The guy behind the counter was maskless.
Hes probably thinking im a libtard sheep, and Im thinking, good, at least I know who the asshole is.
Where I live, people who don't wear masks don't seem to look down on those of us who do. At least I've never heard of a confrontation here.

-- this is about what kind of human being you are.
-- First of all, I wear a mask in public, not for me, but for you.
--I want you to know that I am educated enough to know that I could be asymptomatic and still give you the virus.
--No, I dont live in fear of the virus; I just want to be a part of the solution, not the problem.
--I dont feel like the government is controlling me. I feel like Im being a contributing adult to society, and I want to teach others the same.
--The world doesnt revolve around me. Its not all about me and my comfort.
We need to protect all of those around us, please!
--If we all could live with other peoples consideration in mind, this whole world would be a much better place.
--Wearing a mask doesnt make me weak, scared, stupid or even controlled. It makes me considerate.
when you think about how uncomfortable it is, what others think of you, just imagine someone close to you - a child, a father, a mother, grandparent, aunt or uncle - choking on a respirator, alone without you or any family member allowed at bedside...
--ask yourself if you could have sucked it up a little for them...
