Why was a photo of President Lincoln lying in his coffin buried in a box beneath a statue of Robert E. Lee?
The spirit of January 6 was with us a hundred and fifty years ago.
It's time to give this insurrection a rest.

A second time capsule found underneath the now-dismantled Richmond statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee was opened by Virginia state officials Tuesday. The 36-pound copper box included Minie balls (Civil War bullets), buttons, letters and books.
The time capsule was also rumored to include a rare photo of a deceased President Abraham Lincoln in his casket, based on newspaper accounts at the time of the capsules 1887 dedication.
But when officials opened the capsule, they instead found what appears to be a Harpers Weekly image of a figure grieving over Lincolns grave, according to the Virginia Department of Historic Resources staff who opened the box on a YouTube live stream.
It will take time for experts to analyze all of the contents of the box, but it appears likely that the only known image of Lincoln after his death, rediscovered in 1952, will remain so.

sympathizers were rubbing the north's nose in Wilkes Booth's accomplishing the death of the victorious north's leader?

But the one you mention is near the top of the list. The south hated him, it was quite a conspiracy to try and cede with lots of left over conspiracy to last over a hundred years. Such a photo would be a prize keepsake for some. Now it could end up on display in a museum... you know they make up their own narrative and preach it as gospel. Long term conspiracy requires boosters from time to time, this could be described as such.
