West Virginia unions push Joe Manchin to back down on Build Back Better

West Virginia AFL-CIO president Josh Sword pointed to Manchin's history of bringing "opposing parties together to reach compromises on the most controversial of measures. ... It is our hope that he will continue to negotiate with other national leaders in Washington on the legislation, which would help workers, our families and the labor movement both across the country and right here in West Virginia."

He cited the "critical relief" Build Back Better would provide "on the cost of health and child care," while creating and improving "jobs for home care workers" and "expanding access to affordable home and community care for seniors and the disabled."

He makes it sound like Manchin actually cares about 'common people' in West Virginia, as if they were the ones providing big $$$ to support the exotic cars and yacht....

Amalgamated Ne'er Do Wells Local #145 from Cockswamp Crotch, WV?

International Brotherhood of Hoods Local #249 from Crackhead Hollow, WV?

For the less well informed (such as my alerter), this is a reference to Manchin's comments:

And alerted you.

I voted against hiding since they clearly misunderstood what you did there.

Local pressure inside West Virginia can't hurt. Manchin has said he cannot support any legislation he's unable to explain to WVa citizens. Sounds as if he's got a whole lot of explaining to do regarding his refusal to support the bill and actually help his own electorate. Lots of WVa coal workers need help with healthcare and transitioning to other industries.

Time to face you own constituents, Senator Manchin!

importance to those following WV politics.

During my years working in West Virginia GOP politics in the early 2000s, I quickly learned that “Talkline” was required listening. As an occasional guest, I found Kercheval to be a tough, fair and knowledgeable interrogator with no agenda other than practicing good journalism. Kercheval describes his personal politics as “moderate to conservative,” but for the most part he’s fiercely independent. ...

WVRC Media, parent company of “Talkline,” is owned by John Raese, long a prominent figure in state GOP politics. But Kercheval runs his show without interference, he said. He writes a daily commentary and, in keeping with the times, streams a video podcast of his show. It should be bookmarked by anyone interested in Manchin’s thought process.

Over his years as a state legislator, secretary of state, governor and U.S. senator, no one has been a more consistent guest on “Talkline” than Manchin.

(The host's "moderate WHAT to conservative"? Modlib or modcon is a huge difference, but probably a clue is that he didn't actively oppose tRump for over 5 years of atrocities, until January 6.)

Anyway, for anyone interesting in getting an idea of what most WVans who pay attention listen to about WV politics and Manchin the commentary is at https://wvmetronews.com/category/hoppys-commentary/ .
