Mom And Son Kept Off Plane-- Because Of Knives Hidden In Toy

Officials have not released an explanation.

By Susie Madrak — December 29, 2021

TSA officers at the Philadelphia International Airport stopped a Cortland, NY woman and her young son from boarding a plane yesterday -- because of two knives sewn into the middle of a stuffed Darth Vader Bear. Say what?

Officers say the stuffed bear, which appeared to be a black bear in a space-age technology suit and cape, triggered an alarm on a security checkpoint X-ray machine.

TSA officers removed the stitches from the back of the stuffed bear and found two knives ‘artfully’ hidden inside in the middle of the bear’s stuffing.

3. I don't get it. Those are pretty feeble looking knives for doing anything nefarious

I suppose they could still seem threatening if wielded in a menacing way, but not really good for either a terrorist threat or an imagined need for self-defense.

Maybe someone's idea of a joke? There's nothing in the article that provides the woman's reaction, whether she admitted she knew the knives were there or not.

I wonder if the kid somehow shoved those in there? I agree. The article is short on info.

to keep the head from flopping around.

I haven't sewn knives into a stuffed toy to fix overweighted limbs or a head, but they could have been added as a splint.

4. Maybe she was taking the stuffed bear to her husband in prison.

It could be that instead of her about to use them to hijack the plane. Whatever the reason, she should've been arrested not just expelled from the flight.

I was 14, and the bear had been through a lot. I was out with some dumb boys, and the cops thought there was some thing in my bear. I gave them permission, and they dug around in my teddy bear, nothing but inadequate stuffing. I chalked it up to osteoarthritis and never liked cops again. Still has his scar.

er to edit... I was not driving; the dumb guy who was 16 was driving.

If you manage to get the butter knives on, then try the next time with sharp ones ... if it fails, say the bear is just there to comfort your poor little child.
