21. Drove around for hours on Monday trying to get my sick kid

Tested. Even with an appointment we were shut out. Finally found a drive-up 15 minutes away. We had time and resources to do this. Not everyone does.

Thankfully, he was negative. Just a cold.

8. Certainly the reported rapid test numbers are low -

But at least around here the PCR tests are still relatively easy to find. Most at home rapid tests aren't reported - and those are in shorter supply than any other tests.

The shortage of tests may also be balanced out by a higher than average number of people taking the test just to be safe for holiday gatherings.

24. My BIL had surgery yesterday.

It's probably a good thing that they only allowed one person to stay with him. His older sister wanted to, but she has a COVIDiot for a son - and unvaccinated people living in her house. She somehow believes that since she is vaxxed and boosted she is immune. She doesn't wear a mask around her COVIDiot son, and insists that because she feels fine she doesn't have it and can't infect anyone.

So - since only one could stay - his younger sister (who is pretty cautious) stayed.

He's been told to stay away from anyone who is even two handshakes away from COVID, because if he gets sick he will be in a world of hurt.

(I had surgery a year ago today - almost as bad then since it was mostly pre-vaccine and I had to choose between spouse (the obvious choice) and daughter (better medical ears).)

So pissed at selfish people.

Today my jaw literally dropped open. That happened yesterday when I saw the numbers from France. Florida is going through the roof today.

I was expecting the US new cases to be in the low to mid 300s, but it was already over 400.

25. Half a million will soon be dwarfed by numbers

twice or 3 times higher within a week (my prediction). I can easily see several million a day judging from the European numbers. We seem to follow them.
