Joshua Bote,

The Sierra mountain town of Pollock Pines, population 7,112 as of 2020, is in crisis. Tahoe visitors aren't helping.
As snowfall continues to pound the area, Pollock Pines is on its third day without power and there are no signs of PG&E restoring service anytime soon, said 46-year-old Tom Andor, who has a home in the area. Gas stations in the region have all but run out of fuel, meaning the gas-powered generators that residents have turned to for warmth and electricity are nonfunctional and the possibility of leaving the area is all but gone.
So many residents are now stranded in terms of they cant get out of their garages or their cars are covered and things like that. They're immobile, Andor told SFGATE.
Good article...first time in a while the media hasnt been "promoting" or "upselling" Tahoe to the Bay folks and beyond...
I'm so pissed. Took us 2 1/2 hours to get home from the store when we needed milk and bread after SEVEN days stranded indoors!
This morning, I was hacking away, cursing loudly (cuz that's how I get through it), trying to find the fucking STAIRS.
when a vacay person across the street says "How are you?" I was like "I'm pissed I hate snow!" she was baffled and said "you hate snow...?" I said, "what do you WANT?"
She asked about the car parked in the ONLY cleared parking area on the STREET (for 4 cars cuz that how they roll) and I told her it was ours and we're waiting on our "driveway guy" and we'll move it when he comes...
I mean. COME ON - LOOK at the OCEAN of snow on my deck, in my yard etc... wtaf?
She's lucky she was far away enough or I would have hit her with my shovel for being so stupid.
sorry, I need to go finish my third round of hacking, have a hot shower and a beer!

(2 posts)I think you'll be feeling better soon. Going to express the positive here to you.
Does it feel claustrophobic with all that snow around you? That might have something to do with it. NOT ABLE TO ESCAPE !
Hang in there FirstLight !

I don't dislike or discriminate against either permanent residents or tourists, all have their roles and rights, and I certainly wouldn't be blaming anyone for...snow.
My kids and grandsons were snowed in like you, spending hours driving small distances like you, shoveling out head-deep trenches to their buried vehicle like you, and they don't behave that way. At all.
Hope tomorrow's much nicer for you and your presumably temporary neighbor.

(13,362 posts)Dont need a lecture on manners.
Tahoe has been inundated and RUINED by these people, especially the last few years. So you dont understand the anger and frustration. Add to that being in pain and trapped, sorry some people tend to need to VENT
whatever...nice for you to comment :eyeroll:

(58,785 posts)You know, when we retired, I told my husband I didn't want to move to any tourist/vacation towns because I really didn't want to listen to free-flowing, ugly anti-tourist bigotry at every gathering, which is pretty much the case whenever we visit friends in those places and they take us to visit their friends.
Of course that's now also the case for any area pretty enough to draw retirees in numbers -- like yours -- hostility free flowing against them too. Sure, this ugly attitude is something local RWers and some others are able to enthusiastically share, but...!
My suggestion for a behavioral tool -- should you ever become interested in one of course -- would be to treat tourists as if they're all black. Most people take pride in strongly disapproving of discriminating and otherwise acting out against black people (including raging against their moving to and ruining their neighborhoods!); so if you're one of the many whose self identity doesn't allow that, it might be a useful trick.
Itm, as someone is sometimes a tourist myself and always a retiree, please at least question the appropriateness of acting differently toward us than others. I think we deserve normal courtesy at least.

(14,493 posts)I'm guessing it's a very long wait for emergency aid, a long trip to hospital and backlog due to COVID at the ER.
Just a friendly reminder to be extra cautious with your health considering increased risk of falls and heart attacks.
Thanks for sharing......

(13,362 posts)our city/county officials are more interested in the taxes/revenue from tourism than the SAFETY of their people. And our roads go unplowed for 6 days so emergency vehicles cannot respond....oh but they are responding to the MANY tourists that are spun out and stuck on the highway etc
It's the straw that broke many of us... Ive got a friend who cant make rent cuz she couldnt get to work due to CITY plows not doing their job and tourist cars in the road that blocked plows...
so Im not the only one who is pissed at this shitshow
