They have taken a variety of steps to help protect the right to vote, including doubling the number of voting rights attorneys, taking steps to ensure compliance with voting rights statutes, and issuing guidance on
(1) the civil and criminal statutes that apply to post-election audits
(2) methods of voting, including early voting and voting by mail, and
(3) the vote-dilution protections that apply to all jurisdictions under Section 2 of the VRA as they engage in redistricting.
They launched a law enforcement task force that includes the FBIs Criminal Investigative Division and the Department of Homeland Securitys Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to combat the increase of threats against election officials and election workers.
They ordered an internal review to prevent violent extremism within the federal workforce.
The White House and DOJ have each issued strong policies restricting contacts between the White House and DOJ to prevent improper political interference in investigations and cases.
They issued new guidance to agencies clarifying that Title IX sex discrimination protection includes protection on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics.
They appointed an official to facilitate the expedited review of hate crimes related to COVID-19, and provided that the Attorney General will issue guidance to agencies to establish online reporting of hate crime or incidents that is effective for people with disabilities.
They rescinded guidance issued in the previous Administration that curtailed the use of consent decrees, including within investigations into patterns or practices of discrimination and misconduct by police departments.
They withdrew guidance issued in the previous Administration that required prosecutors to always charge cases in a way that generated the harshest sentences, replacing it with guidance that restored discretion to make decisions about charging and plea agreements.
They stopped renewing contracts for privately operated detention facilities, covering the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and U.S. Marshals Service (USMS).
They placed a moratorium on all federal executions, effectively ending the federal death penalty.
They recovered the majority of the ransom paid by Colonial Pipeline to a Russian hacking collective. The Biden Justice Department followed the money and seized 63.7 bitcoin, valued at about $2.3 million.
All of these facts were taken from the DOJ website or the White House website, and some are direct quotes.
They have also launched lawsuits against Texas and others for their voter suppression bills, all while protecting teachers in Florida from Governors who want to strip their salaries.

(21,401 posts)pushing the insurrection 2.0 and pushing The Big Lie. DOJ took up his case because it was referred to them by the select committee.
Half of the people arrested at the Capitol did zero jail time, every one of them should have been charged with impeding the official proceeding of Congress, a felony. Instead, the traitors were charged with, "remaining in a restricted federal building," "parading," "demonstrating/picketing in the Capitol."
These people attempted a coup on our democracy, on our government and people are OK with charging them for "parading?" Several judges have complained that prosecutors are not seeking stiff enough charges.
They did nothing to stop the Cyber Ninjas and so the fraudits spread across the country. 19 states have passed voter suppression laws and are gerrymandering new maps. Once these laws take effect on Jan. 1, they will have to be challenged in court.
As far as combatting the attacks against election workers and school board members what they are doing is a joke. The attacks against these people continue. What DOJ is doing, in the words of Garland himself, is to work with local law enforcement to make suggestions how to deal with the attacks on election workers and school board members. I watched him when he testified before a Senate committee and Senate Republicans accused him of preventing the Magat's freedom of speech and that's when he said that DOJ would make suggestions to local law enforcement. Did anyone else watch him at this hearing?
As far as the rest of the good things that DOJ has done, thank god for Merrick Garland he is a huge step above William Barr.

(36,132 posts)Within a month of his being confirmed, Garland moved on four post-Trump cleanups.
Garland's DOJ took 18 significant actions in the last eight months, along with the hundreds of prosecutions you list.
All that ALONG WITH running the Biggst F'n Department of Justice on the planet.

(6,207 posts)... 3 with a minimum of tools. I stood back, drank some water, and patted myself on the back. Well, it's time to tackle the 4th and finish my trip to safety and the celebration. Only to discover the 4th tire was mounted on the wrong rim.
I realized two things at that point ; one I should have taken the time to have the tires swapped before I left but thought I'd have plenty of time when I got where I was going. It was a long cold night in the truck before my friends came and rescued me the next day.
And two all the great success I had swapping the three tires was for not because it didn't get me where I need to be when I need to be there.
The wedding went on without the best man.
