for documents connected to the date named insurrection. The excuse being given is "national security" and "executive privilege." I call bullshit on both of them, but once again stand by my conviction that we will be fortunate if any of these documents are turned over by the end of this decade.

Yeah, I know that the article seems to be giving a nuanced explanation of what's going on, but nowhere in it do I see that any documents have actually been turned over.

(31,874 posts)If it was Trump - he would have tweeted it word for word because he's an idiot.
Biden is intelligent - he's not going to throw us under the bus by giving away the whole enchilada.

(49,034 posts)The committee feels that some are not necessary and others can be deferred (request held back) until further developments (other evidence obviates the need for them or a way is found to release enough of what is needed).

(31,874 posts)I don't need to know who was steaming Trump's pants while he was wearing them the morning of the insurrection.
Or - if he made stinky in his pampers.
Or - if he gave the nuclear codes to Putin.
Dozen of pages created Jan. 6 don't pertain to the assault on the Capitol. Other documents involve sensitive preparations and deliberations by the National Security Council. Biden's officials were worried that if those pages were turned over to Congress, that would set a troublesome precedent for the executive branch, no matter who is president.
Still other documents are highly classified and the White House asked Congress to work with the federal agencies that created them to discuss their release.

(21,395 posts)all of the lower courts have denied Trump's executive privilege. The best case scenario is the SC doesn't take the case and it shouldn't, you know the old Republican meme, one president at a time. If the court takes the case then Democrats are going to have to request the SC to expedite its decision or the clock most likely will run out.

(49,034 posts)... not going to the Supreme Court.
tRump has nothing to do with this part; no court challenge, not in a position to decide to release or not release, not even in possession of these documents.

(21,395 posts)and I think this move is the best way to move things along, don't give Trump any options to challenge.

(21,620 posts)and the white house and committee were in agreement they were not needed. So no worries about anything incriminating being hidden. Biden wouldn't do that.

(25,895 posts)And the shielding still strikes me as bullshit.
Honestly, people in power would claim "National Security" over locating the public toilets if they could. Meanwhile, how long will it take for the archives to go through all the documents, decide which ones are okay to release, and then do so?
But more to the point, all I see here is yet another in the endless delay for turning over those documents.
