Stunning!

"On Wednesday, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene advocated that people moving from Democratic-leaning states to Republican-leaning states should be temporarily barred from voting."

She's also talking about splitting up the country into Red vs. Blue states. Gee what could go wrong?

All willing to disavow their parents-caregivers racism and ignorance get a pass and free relocation to a place of their choosing. All others can be watched 24/7, easily in these times. Make sure these types are there also, leading their constituency of racists.

the ties that bound the CSA and the British would have been very strong. Hitler would have been the enemy of both, IF he had even happened.

Czarist Russia was the only major European power that truly sided with the Union (they were in serious conflict with the Brits then in the Great Game in Asia) during the Civil War. They sent a sizable part of their navy to both US coasts and were greeted as heroes in NYC and San Francisco. The British tried to get the Mormons to set up a Western war front against the Union as well, but overall failed with that.

No I did not. So why the cheap shot?

A country official neutral in WWI (perhaps a surviving Confederacy) may have been willing to accommodate a German presence, similar to how an officially neutral Falangist Spain did - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spain_during_World_War_II

Any accommodation with the Nazis by a Confederate nation would have severely weakened the Allies.

even with slavery, they never had an economy or civil system that wasn't bolstered up by the north; and for the most part, that continues today - the confederate states receive more federal money than they send. The northern and blue states pay for it.

If the Confederacy had won the war - or even stalemated enough that they got to be a separate country - their economy would have failed within a generation. Or possibly England would have seen an easy opportunity to get some of their land back; or some other country would have seen a good opportunity to take some land.

Imagine all those southern racists being conquered by Mexico.

That one person is totally disconnected from reality is not terribly troubling. The fact that she has thousands who support her is really a serious concern. That they have elected her to represent them in one of the most important jobs in the Republic is something that cannot be ignored. People who cherish their country and its freedoms should not be sleeping too well. Those good solid law-abiding Germans who failed to consider Hitler and his gang of crude thugs as a serious threat awaken from their slumber to find their nation destroyed by that madman.

What Gingrich lacked at the time was a full time, completely coordinated media ecosystem. They had Fox and some internet, but not what they have today. Not anything that infiltrated the mainstream media as frequently. Gingrich is just as despicable as the GOP today, he just didn't have as hospitable an environment to operate in as today.

Loudest and most antagonistic and bullying and in-yer-face.

He set the new parameters. The new low. The new ruthless and bloodthirsty and combative.

And yeah, ol’ Newt-y almost looks tame and well-mannered compared with the depths to which some of these folks have sunk by now.

Nobody (or at least not many) talked openly of doing actual harm to people. Actual bodily harm and even death. That was evidently where the line was drawn.

His game was to shame anybody who saw through him. The first to major player to lie on camera and double down in righteous outrage when called to account, he publicly accused his opposition of bad conduct which he, himself, did regularly and, as regularly, denied. He would often simply invent a historical "fact" to prove his point and none in the GOP were any wiser and the rest thought he would eventually burn down like McCarthy. The GOP began their inevitable devolution to their present low place when they refused to take action to remove him and his kind from their midst.

Is it really surprising that Trump actually believed Georgia's officials would just jump right in with his treason requests? After all Georgia spawned Gingritch.

Exactly what people like MTG want. She's a zany bit actor just like everyone else on the right that has jumped into the circus that is the Republican party. She has no pull, no respect and no future. Reacting to her and her ridiculious thoughts are probably the only thing that keeps her in Congress. Eventually people from Georgia are going to get tired enough of her to do something. Everyone keeps pointing their fingers at the extreme side of the right as an example of Fascism but failed to acknowledge they they are so far removed from reality that they are nothing more than free entertainment.
