Eric Swalwell Asked Twitter to Help ID Tucker Carlson Fan Who Wanted Him Shot
LET’S TALK ABOUT IT

A far-right Canadian man sent a direct message to Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) on Instagram and said he should be shot. So, to bring the man to justice, Swalwell tweeted for his followers’ help identifying him. In an eight-tweet thread Thursday, Swalwell shared screenshots of his conversation with the man, in which the user apologized to Swalwell once the congressman began to inquire about him (“to share it with law enforcement”) and said he didn’t mean what he’d said. The user—who shared his Instagram handle, name, job, and city, all of which Swalwell published—pointed to outlets like Fox News’ coverage of Swalwell’s relationship with a suspected Chinese spy as clouding his judgment. Swalwell said the exchange demonstrated Fox News’—in particular, Tucker Carlson’s—potential for worldwide brainwashing. “The lies from Tucker and others are radicalizing people across not just America but the world,” Swalwell wrote. “The lies are inspiring people to make threats of violence against lawmakers. Tucker & Co. know this. And that’s why they tell their lies. They want to incite the mob.”

a terrorist organization. They're anti-American, subversive terrorists.

The first amendment does not protect those who advocate the murder of legally elected representatives of our government.

Little bow-tie wearing asswipes, like Carlson, should be made to pay for their subversive rhetoric on fascist propaganda outlets such as Fox Noise.

Considering it's owned by a foreign national - even if that country is considered an ally - should have some bearing on the issue itself.

Does Murdoch, or his employees, threaten those in his own country's government as well?

So I don't think it has an FCC license. I'm not sure, and I know there are people here who know a lot more than I do, so if I'm incorrect, please correct me and I'll delete.

But absolutely there should be consequences.

which begs the question why did he publish his full name?

I welcome him sharing how Jeremy was radicalized, and how the conversation seemed to change his mind about Swalwell and regret what he'd done.

I like Swalwell a lot. I think he'd make a fine president someday. But I like him a little less after this. He revealed how Tucker Carlson and Joe Rogan incite hate and violence, but then he did some inciting of his own.

not so much. Plus, this is a direct death threat to him or his family. I for one will cut Swalwell some slack on how he dealt with this danger to his family.

You make a good point. It is possibly, maybe probable that this individual will not repeat such activity. However, reading and hearing about the many threats received by people like Swalwell makes me wonder if outing a few might be the best way to make many others think twice before acting similarly. The shear volume of violent rhetoric overwhelms any effort to address each event individually.

And I wish more people would make their points the way you make yours: acknowledging the other person's points while stating your own in a way that makes people think, not reflectively argue.

Goodness gracious, reading this, reading about the military coup and other take over activities it's no wonder no one has had a nervous break down. Consider the source before you react. Is Jeremy Marshall really his name? Does he really watch tucker?

Stop the scare we have enough things to worry about

Expose the lot!

I'd like to see a publicity campaign that named all charged for January 6 involvement, briefly featuring charges filed with maximum possible penalty; those charged should be grouped by state they are from (avoiding the mind-numbing prospect of an alphabetical list of 700 names) and then grouped alphabetically within the state they are from.

Not just a few, ALL. Naming all exposes the enormity of the Jan. 6 incident; grouping the accused alphabetically and by state makes it about as easy as possible to see if one's neighbors or acquaintances might be involved, putting the well-known snoopiness of people to work, and perhaps providing them a nice bit of gossip-fodder. Know anyone who always reads obits, traffic fines, day in court, bankruptcies or foreclosures?
