We all know how Marjorie Taylor Greene just suggested that people from Democratic-leaning states who move to Republican-leaning states should be temporarily barred from voting.
I live in Idaho. For many years we have been besieged by people moving up here from California. The people moving here are definitely NOT Democrats. They're right-wing extremists, and I don't use that term lightly: in the four most northern counties of Idaho (Boundary, Bonner, Kootenai and Shoshone) the county Republican Central Committees are now officially aligned with the John Birch Society. In the 1970s, North Idaho's political stance was similar to Bill Clinton's - what we will describe as "pragmatic centrism." Today's climate has gone so far to the right Barry Goldwater would have been seen as a leftist. In the last city council election the censorship of books in the Coeur d'Alene Public Library was an issue...and the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee hinged their endorsement on candidates' agreeing to do it.
Idaho wouldn't look like it does now politically if the people who moved here from California couldn't vote.

(115,719 posts)that right-wingers who live in majority-Democratic states might want to move away from the commie-pinko-BLM-woke-ANTIFA-infested state they live in to a place where their views would be more welcome. There are plenty of wingnuts in my majority-Democratic state, Minnesota, and although there are areas of the state that are basically cold Alabama, some wingnuts might prefer to live in real Alabama, where it isn't cold. Democrats, however, might rather be cold than move to Alabama. Is Empty Green's plan that anyone who moves from Minnesota to Alabama prohibited from voting in the next election, or is their party affiliation checked first? Which could be a problem for her plan, since in this state, and some others, when you register to vote you don't register with a party.

(32,639 posts)This has been going on for several years, and it pre-dates the Covid outbreak. It has more to do with gun-humpers who believe the end of the world is coming, and they want to be ready to fight off the hordes of immigrants and black people who will try to steal their stuff. No they're aren't very intelligent or educated, but they are angry and scared. It wouldn't surprise me that wealthy ultra-conservatives have figured out how to brainwash these people, because they're cultish anyway and they believe a lot of lies.
Idaho and Montana have more than their share of these weirdos, and I'm sure it has ruined the political discourse for many years.

(10,052 posts)uneasy about Northern Idaho and Northern Montana, it was like all those fugitives would flock to the area to get lost where everyone minded their own business and asked no questions. I remember when there was a fugitive who was a spy and sold secrets, (I think it was to Russia, not sure) and the FBI was looking all over the world for him. Found him in Northern Idaho, when they got a tip and found a dollar bill with his pseudonym written on it, on the wall of a small bar in Good Grief Idaho, where we would often go for pizza.

You can't eat the fish in our lakes, rivers and creeks because, thanks to the Bunker Hill Smelter being in place for 100 years with 50-foot smokestacks for most of that time, the first three feet of the bottom of every body of water in the Pend Oreille and Spokane Watersheds are contaminated with lead - and not a small amount of it either.
You also shouldn't eat the deer, elk and bears we have around here for the same reason.
Because we used to treat things like telephone poles and railroad ties with creosote in ditches dug in the ground, the whole Inland Northwest is one huge cancer cluster. The best cancer center in the area is in St. Maries, a city of less than 3000 residents. It didn't get there by accident.
And to top it all off, because there is an Air Force base 30 miles from the state line that is capable of handling B-52 bombers - and, during the Cold War, was one of the main B-52 bases - we're one of the primary targets for any nuclear missile attack.
These yahoos can run around with their guns and their big pickups claiming they're preparing for the end of the world, but if the shit hits the fan for real they're going to be sucked through the blades along with the dung.

ELEVEN Oregon counties have expressed interest via ballot resolutions to move the state line so they can be part of this Christo-Fascist project.

(50,559 posts)If you look at a map of the Redoubt, the western boundary is the CA-NV state line, and from there it's the entirety of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
The reason those counties want to become part of Idaho is they don't want to be seen as part of a blue state any longer. I personally think they should turn eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming into one state...that way, the whole land mass would have the population of an actual state and four Republican senators would just vanish into thin air. Of course, they might not be overly happy when the state capitol is moved to Spokane.
