So, like many of you on here I have had a few frustrating experiences with anti-maskers lately. Depressing and infuriating. Of course I live in a blue area, so many of you face MUCH worse.
However, yesterday at the grocery store (a madhouse even though I went early), there were 3 unmasked shoppers striding through the store. Everyone else was masked and trying to social distance. Any guesses what race/gender these fine Americans were?
But what got me was the expression on their faces. Pride. They were enjoying themselves. As they strode around trying to make eye contact with other shoppers (who were all avoiding them and trying to maintain social distance), they were in their element and feeling very superior indeed.
While the rest of us, 99% of the shoppers, were acting responsibly to PROTECT them as well as ourselves, they were oblivious. Some rightwing tool had told them to own the libs and they were reveling in it.

(4,441 posts)Makes me angry every time I shop, but all I can do is try to get my shopping done quickly and get the hell out of there. Like a lot of people, I no longer feel sorry for people who won't get vaccinated or wear a mask if they end up getting Covid.

(12,904 posts)They revel in their ignorance. They are out searching for your displeasure at them. They are craving the negative interaction. I have no time for them, so I usually set to ignore. They dont deserve my attention.
Thats what they really dont like. Being ignored.

(32,639 posts)... and yet in the retail stores I'm seeing probably 50% unmasked, maybe more if I shopped more often.
Among those without masks, I'm seeing mostly younger ones. The older shoppers are almost all wearing masks, men and women alike. Of course the store employees must wear masks while working but it seems the younger employees are sneaking breaks without their masks. I don't know, it scares me now with colder weather. There are no outdoor restaurants or shopping now, it's all indoors and not enough people are back to wearing masks. They got lazy in the summer months and now they won't go back.

(17,056 posts)late middle aged/ older white males. Everyone else, including teenagers and twenty somethings of all races, are masked. At least, that's my experience. However, they are so much in the minority that the vast majority of older white males are still masked. These are the real outliers.

(10,829 posts)Lo and Behold, all but two people I saw were . . . masked! That's a huge difference from a short week ago where only about 50% were masked and the place was mobbed.
Can it be that these anti-vaxx, anti-mask fools are catching on, now that the case load rolled in at a half million+ yesterday?? Or were people slacking off because they thought the Omicron variant was a nothingburger?
Whatever the case, I'm glad to see it. From all predictive accounts, the next few weeks could be rough.
Was dismayed to hear my brother-in-law was recently exposed. His daughter-in-law tested positive for Covid on Monday. Everyone was vaxxed, primarily because my brother-in-law has progressive lung disease. He's hoping to get a lung transplant in the spring. An infection now, could easily be the end of him.
Stay safe everyone! A few moments of 'happy hour' isn't worth it.

(19,986 posts)gun humpers: sociopaths who don't care how many people die or become disabled as a result of them demanding that they can do whatever they want no matter how others are affected. I would guess that many of the anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers are in fact selfish gun humpers as well. They just don't care about "society" or the "greater good." It's all about me me me me me me me me...

(9,070 posts)All of the under-the-nose, under the chin mask-holes were men. I saw two out of about a dozen who had well fitted masks.
I didn't see a single woman there that wore their mask incorrectly with the exception of few that had ill-fitting masks.
Some guy got in without a mask but he was escorted out. People were wondering aimlessly and not distancing. I had to move out of the way every time I turned a corner. No one moved out of my way once.
I really, really, really dislike inconsiderate people.
If I get Covid - this morning will be why. Luckily I have a very efficient well fitted mask but it isn't perfect. There is the slightest gap around my nose which I have struggled with on just about every mask.
I won't be going inside that store anymore.

(12,480 posts)A neck gaiter over my mask for a closer fit and it covers beyond the mask and down my neck.
Just make sure it is is a spandex one. It keeps my mask snug.

(9,070 posts)I can't take wearing anything over it because I have pretty severe hot flashes. If I get one while wearing a mask it nearly takes my breath away.
I have some new masks coming that I hope fit a little better.
The one mask I have that deals with that is the most uncomfortable and smashes my face. That's the 3m hard cup N95. It's definitely the best one but I can't stand how tight it is.
