(102,283 posts)Are we memorializing these wonderful women or only pointing out that they are the few ever-dwindling "acceptable white" ones as the tweet and its writer would suggest. It is a pretty ugly thing to accentuate, but...

(268 posts)The implication is that she's upset that these particular white women have recently passed, since she felt some kind of connection to them in particular. It's seems to be a tribute to me.

(32,705 posts)you still can't jump to conclusions because you don't know how long the "list of living white ladies" she supports is. There could be thousands of names on it for all we know.

(9,958 posts)... I clicked "Pass" but it's probably not... not yet, anyway. I'm not sure Betty would be in complete approval of the term "ladies" either...

(115,719 posts)Assuming facts not in evidence. One thing I noticed about the various protest marches was that there were a lot of old white women.

(9,952 posts)is to suggest she has power in a systematically white empowered world. Kinda like crying ... Oh the word for women picking on men. I forget it. Doesn't work when blacks or women are not the ones with the power.

(6,261 posts)Racism (or tribalism) is in all our DNA. Cramming on the "power dynamic" aspect to the simple definition of racism assures that only white people can be considered racist and I think that's profoundly unhelpful. I'm with MLK on this one.

(22,355 posts)His was not a colorblind philosophy, as much as white people wish it had been.

(22,355 posts)feminism, with many Black women becoming more outspoken in their criticism of their white counterparts. It's fair criticism and I read this humorous comment in that context.

(22,355 posts)And to be clear: I don't know if that's Ray's perspective. There's been a lot of writing -- academic and on twitter -- about the issue, though.

(12,659 posts)Is this poster white or black? Are they a comedian? Atre they talking about white actresses who used their power to promote racial equality - black and minority actors or other workers in Hollywood?
If the poster is racist, the ghost of Betty White will visit them tonight and slap the shit out of them.

(15,423 posts)If you reversed white for black, would it be racist? If the answer is yes, then yes, it's racist. If the answer is no, then it isn't.
