A Republican takes over as my county executive on Monday.

No mask, vaccine mandates for Blakeman inauguration

Bruce Blakeman will be inaugurated as Nassau County Executive on Monday at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, where there will be no indoor mask mandate or vaccine requirement to attend.

As the omicron variant surges, Blakeman told Newsday last week: "There will not be a vaccine mandate, there will not be a mask mandate. People can wear masks if they're comfortable doing that. And if they're not comfortable wearing a mask, that's fine. We're not going to enforce it."

Democratic Nassau County legislators criticized the move. In a statement, the caucus' chief of staff William Biamonte said: "At a time when Long Island's positivity rate continues to soar, it would be most prudent to postpone this ceremonial gathering in the interest of preventing a potential super-spreader event. However, if the County Executive-elect chooses to proceed, we urge everyone who attends to take every possible precaution to protect themselves and others."

Blakeman is starting his term by ignoring the governor and fanning the flames of a phony culture war, as our infection rate rises and schools are set to be back in session.

Asshat.

I gave him lots of kudos for his actions through most of the pandemic, but then he became very lax kowtowing to the RW nut jobs the last part of 2021. Now our county is having a huge spike in cases and he's dragging his feet.

Lots of folks were angry about a court ordered property tax reassessment and blamed the Democrat who was presently in office rather than the Republican county executive who engineered a "creative" tax assessment scheme more than a decade ago and wound up a convicted felon because of it.

With a court ordered reassessment, that ain't happening, so I'm going to sit back and wait for the fireworks.

But four years is a long time.

in voter attitudes to insisting accountability and honesty. Many Republicans are committing malfeasance in office (even openly!) they absolutely should be removed for. Maybe that change is coming to your county.

I live in a county that leans red for local government. We had a blue wave in 2018, but now we're red again.

One of our representatives (Tom Suozzi) threw his hat in the ring for governor, so now we have to worry about keeping that seat blue. Suozzi was a great fit for our county.

When Doug Collins threw in his hat for governor, we lost HIM. (What replaced him's bad, but at least back-bench. What a thing to want. His most notable achievement is running a distant second to MT Greene in fines for refusing to mask in the chamber, $30K. )

I guess we'd better join you in concern for keeping NY's governor Democratic. Our first's of course our aspiration here in GA. Go, Dems!
