Jan. 6 committee prepares to go public as findings mount
By MARY CLARE JALONICK

WASHINGTON (AP) — They’ve interviewed more than 300 witnesses, collected tens of thousands of documents and traveled around the country to talk to election officials who were pressured by Donald Trump.

Now, after six months of intense work, the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection is preparing to go public.

In the coming months, members of the panel will start to reveal their findings against the backdrop of the former president and his allies’ persistent efforts to whitewash the riots and reject suggestions that he helped instigate them. The committee also faces the burden of trying to persuade the American public that their conclusions are fact-based and credible.

But the nine lawmakers — seven Democrats and two Republicans — are united in their commitment to tell the full story of Jan. 6, and they are planning televised hearings and reports that will bring their findings out into the open.

If they can not ignore the facts of the case, they will invent excuses for the behavior. If Trump fully admitted to being a sleeper agent for the Russian government, his followers will still be waving the flag and cheering him on. They have too much emotional energy invested in the creep to go back.

Sorry, it is what it is. Crime, borders, Covid, inflation is all that will matter to swing voters. The Repug messaging that worked so well in VA will work well in most swing areas.

No one but us cares about 1-6 even a little bit. Every major paper has stories about how crime is out of control, the borders are open, inflation is raging, Covid tests were messed up by Biden admin, and repeating Repug lies that woke lefties are teaching kids they are born without genders and being white is bad. It worked in VA suburbs and will work elsewhere too.

We are in big trouble if we think 1-6 will matter to swing voters.

Of course, Fox and other propaganda stations will likely not cover it at all. Their usual has little to do with actual news and is more about maintaining the steady drumbeats of hailing their viewers to the right-wing ideology. They are suffering from Covid, though, whether they believe it is a real virus or not.

Set them aside.

Swing voters have been discussed ad nauseam. Most I have met really don't follow politics or issues unless they are directly affected. People are increasingly directly affected. Covid, vaccines, disastrous weather events, and the contrasting child tax credits and better economy are real-life influencers. Whichever way their vote falls will pretty much equal out.

Democrats. That's where it's at. We will watch the coverage and it will motivate us. We know our democracy depends on us. We know the world/environment can't wait. We will rally and vote.

If we turn out to vote--we will win.

Trump and his horde could be eating the ears off puppies during the supper bowl commercials and the M$M would wear the Up/Down buttons and it would be Biden's fault the puppies exist.

Dems need to drive the message by flooding message mediums and working the M$M ... it doesn't take but a month.

It wont be done, some are still operating in the days where information sources weren't fractured.

The upcoming hearings will out the Republican Party as seditionists.

They should not be allowed to represent American citizens as currently constituted. The seditionists must be removed from their seats and never allowed to return to power.

I encourage a healthy Democratic vs. Republican conversation. It's been a long time since we really had one.

Dems did NOT go to Communities of Color radio and places they were going on the internet and Miami Dade and Southwest Texas in the 2020 election.

The vague messaging for down ballot candidates is what a MAJORITY of voters expressed in 2020 election.

The infrastructure bill is a generational but they had a lighting on the side of a building to push it's benefits, that's bad messaging.

That's not the M$M, the M$M is on the side of ratings and that's a known known also but we don't we can work the M$M by holding them accountable for reporting too.

We don't.

Dem messaging needs to get out of the 1990s and we need to control what we can control

You either watched the Watergate hearings or you did not watch anything on TV at all. The fact that all the channels were showing nothing but the Watergate hearings underscored the fact that the investigation into Nixon's involvement in the Watergate break-in was a very grave, important, historic, and unprecedented event.

Now there are hundreds of channels. All Americans should watch every minute of the January 6 hearings, but how many of them actually will? How many of them will even sense the magnitude of the hearings when they can change channels and watch Dr. Pimple Popper or 1,000 Pound Sisters?

I wish that for something as vitally important as saving our democracy, all channels, including cable channels, would be required to broadcast the January 6 hearings. But that's not going to happen.

At the very least, if they hold the hearings during the day, they should rebroadcast them on the non-cable channels during the evening for people who work during the day.
