The talking heads are saying that Jan 6 was a practice run. They're probably right.
However what nobody is saying out loud is it was also a practice run for the FBI, the NSA and lots of local law enforcement. It was a wakeup call for the Pentagon and all the military branches.
We've actually seen the Military work at weeding out insurrectionists and those tending in that direction. The same with some state and local police departments. Several national militias have been identified as taking part in the insurrection and in it's planning. That would be the Proud Boys, the Boogaloo Bois, the 3 Percenters and Oath Keepers. There have also been several state militias identified as well. Again just speculating here, that sounds like probable cause for all sorts of warrants and surveillance.
I'm told by gunners that about half of the country's guns are in the hands of 3% of gun owners. That's 200 million guns in the hands of 3 million gunners. Once again just speculating but I suspect a lot of that 3 million are associated with militias. Should there be a second act (of insurrection) I suspect the powers that be are going to be better prepared with lists and plans.
Once again just speculating, we non gunners may not have to worry about taking guns away. The infantry will do it for us. If it happens it'll get really really messy in the process but when the blood letting is over I don't think the 2nd amendment will exist in its current state . . .

(3,706 posts)Nonetheless I agree that the military is very good at prying guns from cold dead hands.
Each of the 3% may have many, many guns, however once neutralized by the forces of law, for those fewer individuals the many guns are useless and confiscated.
Too, I imagine there's no amendment, no 2nd chance; I imagine a life without guns, it is easy if you try.

(1,364 posts)that half of the country's guns are in the hands of 3% of gun owners - what is a gunner and where is the research. I personally don't know one person that does not own a gun and I have lived in several different states.

DENVERPOPS
(8,820 posts)the "powers to be" stripped the Capitol Police, the D.C. Police of their weapons and protective equipment, and delayed the national guard for hours on Jan 6th........
If the PTB hadn't done that, the outcome would have been much different.........If the police had "dropped" the first few when they walked through the doors or climbed through the windows, the other seditionists would have turned immediately and run away.
I still worry about the number of Trumphumpers that have infiltrated the Police, Guard, and military ranks....................
Most curious to me is Pence still continuing to stand up for the seditionists, even after they openly turned on him and were dead set on hanging him in front of his wife and children.........WHAT can that MF be thinking???????????????

That beig said, if the bad guys ever overthrow our government, I fit the demographic of a Trumper so well, I could infiltrate them and work against them from the inside.

(14,559 posts)"this shit right here" is what the right wing militia is planning. The wet dream of taking up arms against America and having everybody join them.
It's not a fantasy, it's a fucking nightmare. It's a civil war.
Make light if you wish, I can't control your lack of awareness but know for sure that a second civil war will end much the same as the first; lots of bloodshed, loss of life and innocent people swept up as collateral damage.
All because of a horrible mis-interpretation of the 2nd amendment.
The dress rehearsal works for those who defend the constitution as well as those who flouted it. We now have a better understanding of the sedition act and I suspect everyone has been briefed on it.
Nobody will have to 'take away the guns', just pick them up from the corpses.
Fuck around and find out.

(3,733 posts)What is the point of 200 million guns in the hands of 3 million gunners. Even if all of them were willing to take up arms against the USA.
The amount of guns doesn't mean very much.

(14,559 posts)'the revolution' and will be able to arm the new recruits.
The other point in having multiple guns is to store them in different places so when 'they' come for the guns there will be backup.
I have actually known people who stash guns and ammunition out in the woods in remote areas. The ones I know don't trust anyone enough to join a group and consider themselves 'sovereign citizens'. Not crazy enough to show it to authority but kinda fringy.

(3,733 posts)While I can't say that I've known a lot of the militia nuts, I have known a few. They all owned multiple guns, but their
attitudes toward their guns was similar to how kids view their toys.

Most people in the real world will be busy going to work, grocery shopping, caring for kids, teaching school, delivering mail, caring for elderly parents, etc, etc, etc
These fantasies are so strange to me
AndyS
(14,559 posts)Most people were busy as you said, but about a thousand were busy trying to overthrow the government. There are a couple thousand people out there with guns and 1776 fantasies.
These things should be strange. I hope I'm really really wrong but I fear that the 30% of people who thing it is a good thing to overtake the government by violence may ruin my day.
