Out of the mouths of babes

I was at the bagel store this morning. A little girl, maybe 5 or 6 was there with her dad, both masked. A guy comes in with his mask under his nose and the little girl looked at him and said "you have to wear your mask over your nose or they're going to tell you to leave."
He pulled up his mask.

Frankly, I wouldn’t want my child telling a stranger they were breaking rules even if he or she were right. While I doubt her parents taught her to go around ‘Karening’, I know children will often say things that cause their parents to cringe.

And guess she's simply repeating what medical leaders have been saying for almost twenty months now. I'd bet she would suggest wearing a coat in cold weather is a good idea if she saw someone wearing shorts during a snow storm.

But we're both simply guessing with zero evidence to strengthen or deny our idle suppositions.

because if she were my kid, I'd probably laugh my head off.

My cats don't mind putting people in their place, either. They posted this sign on the door.

I had a neighbor who said almost the exact thing about her dogs. Your post brought back a smile.

it’s the parents who don’t. I substituted recently in a kindergarten class and all the children were masked and when one of them let that mask slip below their noses some of them admonished the student who then pulled up their mask. They understood that the masks protect others and themselves. I was so proud of those 5 year olds! Just like that child who had more sense then that man!

Unlike what many anti-maskers are claiming. In fact, kids take cues from their parents. If their parents are matter of fact about it, the kids will be too as a rule.

Too bad though, a kid's got to be exposed to dangerous adult idiots more than ever now!

About 20 years ago, I was in Santa Barbara, California. The recycling thing was just getting going in L.A. where I was from, but central and northern California were far ahead of us in southern California.

We were walking into a museum, and I had an empty soda can. I dropped it in the trash can as I was walking in.

A (I dunno, 5-year-old girl?) was walking out of the museum with her parents. She saw me drop the can into the trash, and said, "Wasn't that a recycle-able can?"
The mom said, "Shhhhh."

I looked back and noticed there was a (new to me) blue trash can for recyclables. We didn't have those in L.A. at the time.

I haven't forgotten that since and am always careful. Thank you little girl.
