wondering if I should give it a try.
Was vaxxed in Feb and March 2021 and boosted in October. All Moderna.
Recently we hear that a booster gives an extra 10 weeks or so of high protection vs Omicron... so, I think it's time for another booster.
I wonder if my CVS would let me sign up for another booster?

(7,410 posts)He had got the third shot booster in November. He spent one night in the hospital receiving Oxygen, lost 10 pounds from 165 to 155. His wife also got it a few days later, fully vaxxed, she just had cold symptoms the whole time though.

(7,849 posts)a really weird cold...sore throat, non-stop sneezing, gushing nose, watery dripping eyes, headache, gooey chest congestion, fatigue, and drenching night sweats..symptoms lasted three days..fatigue a little longer...and I'm fine...and I'm ready for a second booster...

(16,846 posts)I'm pretty sure I had Omicron this past week. Going for a test in the morning to make sure. It was just about 6 months exactly since I'd had my second shot that I got the booster. All were Moderna shots. I think that the boosters aren't helping much with keeping the virus away, just keeping it from being serious. If they had offered the fourth shot, I would've gotten it. I would probably get it even now if I could. Don't think it could hurt.

(7,849 posts)and keep us out of the hospital..now if the labs would just develop a vaccine that would repel the unvaccinated stupid among us into another dimension, a place far away where they could infect and kill each other at will, I would gladly take that jab

(1,568 posts)Would it make the most sense for those places to get the most vaccines? This article here suggests that it's not simply a lack of testing either https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2021/08/covid-19-africa-coronavirus-disease. I haven't seen much in the way of evidence of mass deaths from covid in any of these countries out there. Have you seen any? If Africa was having a significantly higher rate of infection and death compared to the US, wouldn't we want them to get the vaccines before we did even if that meant they end up with a higher vaccination rate?
In South Africa, it seems that their vaccine issues are caused by poor choices by the government. In other parts of Africa, there are issues with getting the vaccines to people in a timely fashion before they expire. Not to mention they have their own issues with vaccine hesitancy.
I don't think RussBLib getting a third booster will have much impact either way.

(9,011 posts)neither can the government.
I don't see why I should deny myself if boosters are available. there are many in this country who refuse to get even one shot. Many who refuse worldwide.

(115,693 posts)I've read that it wouldn't be useful to get another booster sooner than six months after the first one but I don't know whether the research is in about that.

I am really surprised they haven't tried this since #s down on response. Informed are having to seek out info. Uninformed get bad propaganda.

(15,657 posts)I'm sure it's Omicron. My husband got his booster a month behind me. He tested positive but was asymptomatic. I had what felt like a mild cold.
So, his procrastination seems to have paid off on this one

(15,657 posts)Scratchy throat and post nasal drip that I thought was a sinus infection. No fever or fatigue and no positive test until 2 days after onset of symptoms. After that about 5 days of feeling run down. But that was it. I also lost taste and smell for about 12 hrs. Both are duller right now but definitely there.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)loss of smell/taste not found with omicron.. interesting. What was that like? We were trying to imagine today.
Iris
(15,657 posts)Kind of like when you are congested with a cold and can't smell much - but this was complete lack of any smell. Very odd. My husband left some shirts in the washer too long and kept saying they smelled bad but I couldn't smell anything wrong with them! I'm glad it didn't last long.
I didn't know that they weren't seeing that with O. Maybe I had Delta. It was still very mild either way. The test was definitely positive.
I also some sneezing which also made me think it wasn't Covid until I got the test results but I've seen that listed as a symptom for O.

Kind of a funny story. My niece who is about 26 had breakthrough covid and had no idea how she got it. And she has always disliked coffee. So when she lost her sense of taste she drank coffee every day. And it worked. Once she got her taste back she enjoyed coffee.
Iris
(15,657 posts)Coffee was the one thing that didn't start tasting "right" again for several days.

(7,410 posts)First one was in April. Latest news says that may be the most effective against Omicron, 85% effective at preventing hospitalization versus 75% for the MRNA versions, go figure. The next variant will be the opposite Im sure
RussBLib
(9,011 posts)and that's what's so maddening about it. It can change every day. That's the nature of science. Better to have it than not.
Dont wear masks, wear any mask, only wear N95 masks, the vaccine will prevent infection, the vaccine will prevent symptoms, the vaccine will prevent hospitalization, this vaccine will work better for this variant, etc, etc.
I think COVID fatigue is setting in with most at this point.

(44,973 posts)There is a danger of boosting too many times. I am not going to do it unless there is data showing it's beneficial.
RussBLib
(9,011 posts)I suppose effects would be specific to the particular drug...have not seen any literature on that re Covid.
I see many breakthrough cases among the fully-vaxxed and boosted, so...no guarantees.

I am wearing a mask indoors when near other people, as well as having my recommended initial two shots, a booster and flu shot.
Until additional boosters are recommended and approved, I know my Medicare will not cover it!!!!!
RussBLib
(9,011 posts)I joined Medicare in 2021. I wonder what the shot might cost without any insurance?
Karma13612
(4,552 posts)Not to mention, will your insurance cover it?
On Medicare myself. I KNOW they wont simply pay for something not recommended or approved.
Since they have a record of my 3 jabs, I assume they will reject coverage for a 4th unless it is recommended. I would also be worried about doing something to my body that hasnt been approved.
