US could be under rightwing dictator by 2030, Canadian professor warns

Canadian political scientist warns in op ed of Trumpist threat to American democracy and possible effect on northern neighbor

The US could be under a rightwing dictatorship by 2030, a Canadian political science professor has warned, urging his country to protect itself against the “collapse of American democracy”.

“We mustn’t dismiss these possibilities just because they seem ludicrous or too horrible to imagine,” Thomas Homer-Dixon, founding director of the Cascade Institute at Royal Roads University in British Columbia, wrote in the Globe and Mail.

“In 2014, the suggestion that Donald Trump would become president would also have struck nearly everyone as absurd. But today we live in a world where the absurd regularly becomes real and the horrible commonplace.”

And our uppity-up society said it could not and will not happen here....

This is my question:
If suppose the US becomes a right-wing dictatorship that collapses American democracy.

Will 'they' actually do what so often we are told they will do?
They being the responsible gun owners who keep major armaments for 2nd amendment protection of the Constitution.

Will they and the the good-ole-boys-with-guns actually rise up against a non-constitutional right-wing government?
If not, they are lying now.

..but I thought the non-constitutional right-wing government is what they want. Expunge all the non-whites (and maybe Democrats), close the borders and ignore global warming.

Right down to liberals thinking this will all just go away of its own accord and that any suggestion we take this threat seriously is just "doomsaying".

..to know Trump has a lot in common with Hitler. But I suppose all dictators and wannabe dictators have a lot in common.

It was obvious early on Trump was a bully. It was when he expressed admiration for Putin, Kim Jong-un and others that the dictatorial aspirations were obvious.

Putin has issued some ultimatums to the USA and Europe, relative to the Ukraine situation and it's serious stuff.

The Russian deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov [said], “This is not about us [Russia] giving some kind of ultimatum, there is none. The thing is that the seriousness of our warning should not be underestimated,

That's either a promise or a bluff. I have to wonder what information Trump shared with Putin over 4 years, leading Putin to think he can make demands of the USA and NATO? Very Hitler-ish...
