Another crazy Republican rape theory, and Mitt 'disagrees.' Again.

Here we go again:

Richard Mourdock, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in Indiana, said in a debate on Tuesday that "even when life begins with that horrible situation of rape, that is something that God intended to happen." <...>

"The only exception I have to have an abortion is in that case of the life of the mother," Mourdock said. "I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from God and I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape that it is something God intended to happen."

Yes. That's right. It's time to add a new kind of rape to the list: Gift-from-God rape. Seems like only a week ago we were adding "emergency rape" to the list.

Ah, the Republican Party. And, of course, the party's boldest would-be leader, Mitt Romney, who is willing to call China names and will therefore use the strongest language possible to condemn such insulting, inexcusable and wrong language. Or not:

"Gov. Romney disagrees with Richard Mourdock's comments, and they do not reflect his views," said spokeswoman Andrea Saul.

Wow. He disagrees. That's bold! And ... strangely familiar:

"Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan disagree with Mr. Akin’s statement, and a Romney-Ryan administration would not oppose abortion in instances of rape," Andrea Saul, a Romney spokesperson, told The Huffington Post.

That Mitt. He sure does find these things disagreeable, doesn't he? Although, if the public outcry of disgust at this latest in a long line of Republicans to say something despicable and yet perfectly representative of the Republican Party's beliefs about rape, Romney just might manage to muster even more disagreement.

Mourdock's facade coming off gives me a wee bit of hope that Joe Donnelly can pull out a victory. Mourdock is a sleeze bag and now Rmoney dropping him like a hot potato makes my Wednesday. The only caveat is that on our local television chat boards, the low info voters are trying to spin his words to say that "Oh that's not what he meant" "He didn't say God wanted the women to be raped but once she was if she gets pregnant then why take it out on the child?" UGH! Living in Indiana makes me wish I could click my heels three times and be in a blue PROGRESSIVE state. Would someone in Massachusetts want to adopt me?

Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) has cancelled a scheduled trip to Indiana Wednesday to campaign with Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock after Mourdock's comment that pregnancies from rape are the will of God, the AP reports.

Ayotte's spokesman, Jeff Grappone, said Wednesday that the senator disagrees with Mourdock's comments, which do not represent her views. Ayotte was scheduled to campaign with Mourdock on Wednesday, but canceled her trip and is in New Hampshire instead.

“I’ve struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from God,” Mourdock said in a debate Tuesday night. “And even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”
