"SNIP.....

While broader federal voting rights legislation remains mired in the Senate as long as the 60-vote filibuster rule applies, Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) told Axios Axios there’s “some interest” among Senate Republicans in reforming the Electoral Count Act of 1887.

The goal would be to clarify the role the vice president and Congress play in certifying presidential elections.

One can dream and hope. But yes, very difficult. CurtEastPoint Jan 2022 #3
That will never happen. You need a constitutional amendment. And small states won't vote for it. Demsrule86 Jan 2022 #6

They'll agree to vote for this if Dems agree to drop all other voting rights bills. Just watch. Nevilledog Jan 2022 #5

It is embedded in the Constitution, and amendments seem pretty impossible these days. Super majorities in Congress and super majorities of the states are looking pretty scarce lately.

a Senator from a 'Dakota' - (one of two states - with a combined population lower than 40 other states) is 'willing' to discuss some issues regarding the "Electoral College?"

As someone once said (honestly, I don't remember who!) "Why do we need 2 'Dakotas?' (Yes, 'Google' has plenty of answers!)

The fact that his state has the power to over-ride the will of a majority in such a powerful way is something that truly needs to be addressed - and yes, Demsrule86 - that's not gonna' happen in these times!

This bill covers a very narrow subject, will do nothing to address voter suppression or election subversion.

This is extremely misguided. The ECA reform does NOTHING to reverse or prevent voter suppression. Coons is helping McConnell by distracting from the core issue: Dems must unify on filibuster reform and pass the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis VRA.

Sen. Coons said given the deadlock on election reform, he's listening on ECA

“If there remains any path forward on making changes to how we protect the Electoral College process and how we ensure a free and fair vote, I’m open to the conversation"

All states which vote Republican are entitled to double the Electoral Votes of the largest state which votes Democratic in that particular Federal election. In addition, the only votes counted in a state which has voted Democratic are those cast by the majority race in that particular state. Now that’s Republican Reform!
