I don't know. Only he knows. So, I can't see the utility of predicting what someone will say on the day he will say it. I know that everyone has the privilege to be able to predict things like that, but I don't understand why anyone would do so.
It just makes no sense, really. Will he give us hope, or dash our hopes? I don't know. Will he make an announcement about indictments? I don't know.
What I do know is that we will find out what he is planning to say the moment he says it. That's good enough for me. Then, I may have a comment on what he said. Or not.

(21,348 posts)Neal Katyal made a comment yesterday that contradicts what the wait and see crowd have been saying. Katyal said that there is a written clause that DOJ should follow in cases involving our national security, that Justice needs to make a public statement when the country is demanding it. I butchered what Katyal said, but the point is, Merrick Garland is following that guidance because he has been put under pressure by the citizens of this country to give us a statement, no matter how ambiguous it may be.
Yes, believe it or not, the subscribers to DU count as citizens of our great country and our voice deserves to be heard by DOJ.

(104 posts)He will probably talk about some obscure banking violation committed by a low level player and claim that the wheels of justice churn slow, but true.
I, of course, hope it is something big and not a listing of charges and guilty pleas for a bunch of pasty morons brainwashed by Fox News.

(104 posts)But, he better bring more than a case count and be patient simple people.

(13,903 posts)the ongoing investigations. Cheerleading and stats on how many of the trump thugs have been investigated and are being prosecuted. Yeah Team! I doubt we will hear a word on the money men and coordinators of the insurrection. Certainly won't hear anything about the Pig himself, and no questions afterward.

(146,317 posts)That is true. What you wrote is pure speculation. Such speculation was the subject of my post.

(67,109 posts)Hopefully it will relieve some of the anxiety, etc., etc. among the populace as to what is going on in the DOJ.

(146,317 posts)Whatever he says will probably not be adequate for some. I expect to see continued sniping at him and the DOJ, regardless of what he says. I suppose that is unavoidable. I hope he says something substantive, of course.

(92,197 posts)those expectations are not satisfied, there will be a lot of criticism toward the DOJ
I suspect those expectations are holding those responsible for the January 6th insurection will be high on the list

(4,131 posts)You just wrote that you don't understand why anyone would make predictions about what Merrick Garland will say during this press conference.
One week ago you made a prediction yourself about what Merrick Garland and the DOJ will do this week. Quoting your post last week: "Hint: Expect big things to start dropping, beginning next week, the first week of 2022."
What's changed since your prediction on December 28th and today?
Link to your prediction

(146,317 posts)AG Garland is making remarks today about it, on Wednesday of that first week. That's a big thing. So, I got that right. He has been pretty silent up until today. He breaks that silence today. What will he say? I do not know, but I will know as soon as he says something.
I did not predict what those big things would be, though, did I? Nor would I. I do not know. I am not there in the DOJ.
Are you saying that because your predictions were vague, they're OK, but folks who are making more specific predictions are wrong to do so? Such audacity.
You'd better hope Garland says something notable. If he merely gives a broad overview about the folks already charged and makes a commitment to upholding the law, without addressing the elephant in the room, that certainly will not count as any sort of "BIG THING" as you predicted.
Are you now saying that you don't have insider information?
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)I do not have any such thing.
You say, "You'd better hope..." Whatever. What I will actually do is wait to hear what he says. Then, I'll probably have something to say about what he says. I don't know what he will say. Do you?

What "big thing" do you expect to drop this week, MM?

(51,308 posts)Most predictions here tend not to come true, in my experience.
Gosh, how many have there been? Tfg will quit before the election, tfg will quit six months, one year, two years in. Tfg will die of a heart attack, a stroke, syphilis, Covid
Gaetz will be indicted imminently
gah, the list is endless.

(4,131 posts)I just could not believe my eyes when I saw OP admonishing those making predictions when he himself was making predictions merely a week ago. Now he's clarified that the predictions he makes are OK because they're vague. He says that the predictions he doesn't like are slightly more specific and thus not OK to make.

(14,061 posts)Probably one more statement saying how the DOJ is continuing its investigation and is committed to upholding the Constitution.
If Im wrong, Ill gladly eat my words with relish.
After the Hannity and Navarro revelations, I really dont know what more evidence they need.

(11,631 posts)Whats the point of posting an open ended question about something that hasn't happened, thereby eliciting responses and predictions, only to criticize the act of making predictions??
