Registered voters generally prefer Democrats over Republicans on the congressional ballot, according to a recent USA Today/Suffolk University poll.
For months, Republicans have been saying they expect to win back control of Congress in the November midterm elections and plan to obstruct President Joe Biden's agenda if they do. But American voters may not agree with that plan, according to new polling released Tuesday.
A November USA Today/Suffolk University poll found that in the next congressional election, registered voters preferred a generic Republican candidate over a generic Democratic candidate 46%-38%. But when the same outlet posed the same question in December, the generic Democratic candidate led 39%-37% a 10-point swing to the left from the previous month.
Other polling seems to confirm this shift in public opinion. A recent Economist/YouGov poll found Democratic candidates led by 43%-36% on a generic congressional ballot question. A December Reuters/Ipsos survey found Democrats leading by a similar margin, 40%-33%.

This polling should have asked:
Do you think individuals that signed a letter to throw out your vote should be in Congress?
Do you think that members of Congress who conspired to throw out your vote should be in Congress?

(3,859 posts)Democrats have been leading the generic polling for Congress in the composites since they started taking them. But here's the issue--Democrats need to get to about 10% to overcome the gerrymandering.
Biden's job approval has been rebounding, too, though you probably won't hear that in mainstream media news.

(6,592 posts)Also, to me the USA Today/Suffolk University poll is mischaracterized. From Nov to Dec it went from R-D 46%-38% to R-D 37%-39%. R lost 9% but D only gained 1%. That's not "a 10-point swing to the left" as the author says, it's only a 1-point swing to the left, combined with a 9-point swing to "somewhere else," perhaps to Independents, but most likely to "none of the above."
We need to do much better than a meager 1% gain for D, especially when I'll bet that's within the poll's margin of error & is thus statistically insignificant.

(16,685 posts)Isn't going to help them. Democrats are doing better than expected because of where seats were lost.
Repukes maxxed themselves out 10 years ago and didn't have a lot of room to expand. They cost themselves a couple of potential seats by undermining the Census.

(11,885 posts)And how the fascist have taken over the republican party with the goal of dividing us, and hurting our country any way they can so they can accuse the Democrats for what these fascist domestic terrorist have done. Fascism and absolute control is their goal, and fixing elections is their form of Democracy, much like what putin in russia has done. Their corruption has no limits, and only the most corrupt are allowed to prosper.
