i think if he had left out the cops being attacked then the laundry list *would* be associated with "one set of partisan or ideological views"
(and we certainly can guess why people became so enraged with police--that maybe it had something to do with the escalating violence by the cops directed at black people)
so--i guess i misunderstood him. (meh) it just rang of trump's "there are good people on both sides" or whatever the fuck he said.
anyway, here's the excerpt:
Across the country, election officials and election workers; airline flight crews; school personnel; journalists; local elected officials; U.S. Senators and Representatives; and judges, prosecutors, and police officers have been threatened and/or attacked.
These are our fellow citizens who administer our elections, ensure our safe travel, teach our children, report the news, represent their constituents, and keep our communities safe.
Some have been told that their offices would be bombed. Some have been told that they would be murdered, and precisely how that they would be hanged; that they would be beheaded.
Police officers, who put their lives on the line every day to serve our communities, have been targeted with extraordinary levels of violence.
Flight crews have been assaulted. Journalists have been targeted. School personnel and their families have been threatened.
A member of Congress was threatened in a gruesome voicemail that asked if she had ever seen what a 50-caliber shell does to a human head. Another member of Congress an Iraq War veteran and Purple Heart recipient received threats that left her terrified for [her] family.
And in 2020, a federal judge in New Jersey was targeted by someone who had appeared before her in court. That person compiled information about where the judge and her family lived and went to church. That person found the judges home, shot and killed her son, and injured her husband.
These acts and threats of violence are not associated with any one set of partisan or ideological views.

(4,392 posts)but even a casual following of news stories show that the VAST MAJORITY of these threats are coming from right-wingers against their perceived enemies...
YES, all of those who make illegal threats should be prosecuted...but the statement smacks of "both-siderism". Anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together can see that Trump-humpers, anti-vaxxers and anti-CRT wackadoodles are responsible for the vast majority of any such threats. 'Not associated with any one ideology' statement attempts to gloss over this clear fact... once again, the "both sides do it" argument which, while factually true, completely ignores the preponderance of offenders being on the political right-- as of this time....

(6,554 posts)There are crazies from every walk of life. Yes, we see them as majority RWNJs, and rightly so, but this is far from Trump's statement. There is no endorsement, only a clear understanding that these acts of violence will not be tolerated, and are not limited to strictly the RWNJs.

(6,554 posts)"There are crazies from every walk of life." The goppers are being threatened by left wing nut jobs (probably by the right wingers too, when they stray away from kissing Trump's ass). But, they are out there, just greatly outnumbered by the right wing versions. His statement didn't get "wiped off on us", that's your own belief system talking, not Merrick Garland.

(6,554 posts)You choose to read into a statement a completely inaccurate assessment of what is said, and then try to spin it into some crazy conspiracy theory. That, sir, is what the side is doing. Please, stop it. Read a little Sun Tzu and/or Machiavelli and learn how these things actually work.

(60,019 posts)This right now, right here - what we are seeing is vastly a right wing. TFG catalyzed, right wing hate radio and TV fueled issue.
Some say he has to state it like that. I see it as once again playing weakly right into the right wing's hands.
I still think there are an awful lot of Democrats who are not at all fully aware of the danger we are in, and what has to happen to bring us back from this.
