(102,288 posts)made calls for Dems in any prior election, etc. you are on all kinds of lists. I get a half dozen or so daily. Just unsubscribe, set your spam filter to identify them as spam, or gain the peace of mind I tend to have, knowing they are working hard to try to counter the R's in upcoming elections.

Discouraging, certainly, but if you do want to help a worthy candidate, hopefully youll continue with that. I just wind up deleting what I cant satisfy, because Im not made of money, either.

(2,522 posts)I had no intention of voting for the incumbent. Until she showed up at my door asking for my vote. The rest of the field wouldn't come near our end of town. I voted for the incumbent.

The service I use, Spamex, is not in that list. There may better alternatives nowadays, but I've been using them for years with good results, and the cost is low.
Snail mail, of course, is a different matter. I've asked several organizations to quit sending me paper mail, and most comply -- for a while, anyway.

(621 posts)Or something like that, because I have been ignoring their emails to contribute. I am tired of the supposed voter poles. Yes I want my opinions heard but do I have to donate 10$ to do that? Like you, i contribute what I can when I can. But some of the democratic fund raising efforts are starting to look more like their repug counterparts. Getting asked to contribute to a democratic candidate in another state, that is campaigning for the primary election, wait a minute here. That's local politics. Win the primary, then I might think about it.

Easy enough to filter them to a folder where I can sort through them when I have time. I'll judge if any of them need more help and push another dollar or two their way.
I can see where it could be annoying, no doubt.

(16,927 posts)They ARE a pain-in-the-a$$, but so are the car warranties, medicare enrolments, the 'medical' needs, the 'veterans groups' and everybody else that needs money. In a 'just' society - those needs would be taken care of by a decent, caring government.
Just be strong, pick a 'favorite or two' - then just hit "DELETE" for the rest.
They all NEED the money - you just have to decide where you want YOURS to go (hopefully a DEM!).

(6,829 posts)this "wounded Warriors" charity I find irksome. Our country sends them off to be wounded or killed in stupid unwinnable wars based on lies and the voracious never ending hunger of our grotesque military-industrial-congressional-complex.
If our government has the money to go to war, they should have the money to take care of all those that lost parts of their bodies, lives and humanity for the benefit of war profiteering sociopaths.
Harry Truman used to prosecute war profiteers. Now we elect them.
Come to think of it, my beloved home state of liberal Democratic Connecticut is home base for a lot of major MIC corporations. Electric Boat, UTC, Pratt and Whitney, Sikorsky and some others.

(16,927 posts)I TRULY hate those commercials/groups! NOT for what they are doing, but, GAWD DAMN, WE, the US GOVERNMENT should be doing EVERYTHING we can to support and meet the needs of these brave people who went off to serve our country, no matter how much we may believe or not believe in the cause for which they sacrificed.
We CANNOT send them off and then say "Good bye, good luck, and don't expect me to care "if and when" you get back....."

Sometimes it can be too much. And yes Val will sell/trade your info like nobody can.
It is too much.

(115,731 posts)They need money and they are asking people known to contribute to Democrats. I have contributed to the campaigns of a few out-of-state candidates - notably to Warnock and Ossoff - but obviously I can't help everybody. So I just ignore the requests if I can't contribute. The emails are automatically generated and nobody will be offended if they don't get any money from me. No point in getting mad over an automatic email blast.

(90,714 posts)Tap that. Keep doing that every day until the emails stop.
All that has happened is they share lists. They dont expect more than a tiny fraction to respond, but email literally costs them nothing, so they might as well try.

(6,699 posts)And I think NPR is finally giving up on me....😞 I still get solicitations and note pads from HforH years later. I just hate to see them waste their budget on this rare bird.
I will often donate to Free Speech TV and a handful of solid candidates that I wish would win their close elections.
I'm also of modest means...but I just unsubscribe whenever I get hammered with more solicitations.

(129,072 posts)although I would also say that anyone who asks "What are Democrats doing????!!!?!!!!" apparently doesn't get any of those emails (many of which are chock full of what Democrats "are doing". ).
Some of them had an option for "receive fewer emails" when doing an unsubscribe, which I would assume would mean instead of multiples every day, maybe it becomes a couple times a week or once a week.

(27 posts)I have a separate address reserved only for what I think will result in consumer and political solicitations (move on, etc)...I basically ignor it and delete it all every month or so.
You can also find out the real snail mail addresses, send them a paper check. They are happy to cash it. Don't ever give them your e-mail address.

(14,576 posts)PLEASE give us money! PLEASE!
But you know, here in 'Murika, people get nickel and dimed to death.
The whole capitalist system seeks to pass as much of the cost of everything onto consumers and at the same time have taxpayers cover any risk. The costs of childcare, for example, have been mostly passed onto young families that have the most difficulty affording it, and healthcare costs are more and more and more being foisted off onto consumers with fine print, sky high premiums and financially crippling copays.
I often reply back, to places like the DNC, asking where my healthcare is. Where my dental care is. I point out that we have squandered trillions on forever wars and tax cuts, and just now spent $770 billion on this year's war bill. Where is my healthcare? Where is my dental care? Where is the K-12 system that should be the envy of the world? Where is the affordable, debt-free college for my grandkids?
And now it is the same with political donations. Big biz donates billions in dark money to super pacs, but our guys rely on small donations from us. If we quit spending so much on war, raised taxes, and began putting policies in place that actually help everyday Americans, this place would be a great place to live. As it is, it is only a great place if you are not old, poor, sick or different.

(5,401 posts)Donate to one, others descend on you - email, phone calls, snail mail.
My response is cold hearted - after all, their income probably exceeds mine by a long shot.
But if 10c per month will save a child / feed a newborn kitten / stop an angel's wings from falling off, imagine what a few million from the government would achieve! So go see them!
As for political contributions - no guarantee your money will be used for anything fruitful.
As for 'Can you contribute to my campaign?', there is a little word that works well as a response . . . . NO!

(2,117 posts)I donated to John Kerry's Presidential campaign in 2004, and now, like you, they all are begging me for money. Like you, I am retired and living on a fixed income. Even when I was working full time, I could not even think about contributing to every campaign that asked. I resolved years ago to contribute only to candidates whose name would appear ON MY BALLOT, and who shared my priorities. In addition, I limit my contributions to candidates who really need the money.
