The West has a rare window to put Putin in his place

"Putin is an aging autocrat, obsessed with the legacy of his rule, and that of the failure of Soviet Union," says Eronen. "Russia has been ravaged by Covid-19, and the future of its hydrocarbon export economy looks bleak."
This economic weakness is where the West, if it remains united, may possibly be able to force Putin's hand.
"His country has an economy roughly the same size as New York. If the West properly coordinated economic sanctions against him and against Russian business without fear, he would be backed into a corner very quickly," says Bill Browder, a prominent American-born financier who has led the whose push for the Magnitsky Act sanctions has infuriated the Kremlin.
While the West has imposed sanctions on Russia in recent years for various Kremlin misdeeds, it's fair to say they could have gone further.

We could do something about that too. Putin should be more concerned with his own failing health since he plans on being dictator until 2036.

Straight out of the KGB/CIA handbook. GOP is absolutely onboard with Russia's plans because they are ruthless sociopaths like Putin.

By being a leader of another nation, Putin immune to blackmail litigation. So all he has to do is find a weakness and make sure he gets a good recording of the crime.

Conservative leaders have a hard time even pretending they have, compassion, decency and honesty. So all that needs to be done is to place the temptation in front of them. Especially easy if it looks like everyone else is doing it.

Our nations weakness is right there in front of us. There is a reason why Putin loves conservatives. Conservatives are predisposed to treason. Sure, he can get the occasional Democrat, I can think of a couple who seem to be right there. But it is easy pickings to turn a Conservative into an asset.

Those trips to Russia were not sightseeing trips.

Just like Hitler, Putin attracts ruthless sociopaths who will do anything for power and personal gain.

A cornered Putin would increase the cyber war he is waging against us?
Interfere more in our elections? Divide our country even more?

And has done a psy-ops on the US populace.

He is one of the richest men in the world, but getting control of the US cost him much less than combat troops would cost him.

18. I think the West should do 2 things
Tue Jan 11, 2022, 05:12 PM
Jan 2022

1. Cut Russia off from SWIFT (like Biden has said) and any type of banking wires.
2. As much as possible, cut them off from the Internet. I have not doubt ICANN or whoever runs things nowadays can add some exclusions to the top level internet routers to seriously hamper their internet access. Couldn't be cut off altogether, but make it really hard to get out of Russia digitally.

Even if these two things happened for just a week Putin would be begging for mercy, especially being cut off from the world financial system.
