Vaccines are like seatbelts. They won't prevent the accident, but they can save your life.

That is how I framed my side during a vaccination ‘argument’ with a sibling questioning the recent Covid diagnosis of another fully-vaccinated sibling.

She and her husband are skeptics, and my analogy seemed to stop their BS right in its tracks.

If your car is rolling over would you rather be belted or not?

Vaccines aren't a magic force field that prevents a body from being infected. Vaccines, instead, help our bodies fight back once invaded.

Previous generations understood the constant danger of infectious disease. Since vaccines became prevalent, we haven't had to worry about smallpox, polio, measles, and other illnesses that used to sweep through communities. People forgot.

Passionate 'Front Row Joe' Trump supporter dies in highway crash near St. Peter

Source: Star Tribune

A southwestern Minnesota man whose passionate support for President Donald Trump took him to dozens of political events around the country and recently to the White House was killed in a highway crash while returning from a political celebration in Florida.

Randal J. Thom, 60, of Lakefield died in a collision shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday on Hwy. 169 north of St. Peter, the State Patrol said. Thom was driving his minivan south and hit a pickup truck that also was heading south, the patrol said.

Evidence of recent alcohol use by Thom was detected at the scene, according to the patrol. Thom was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol added.

The other driver, James A. Mollenhauer, 67, of nearby Le Sueur, survived his injuries and was taken to a Mankato hospital.

Because it is true.

And the sad fact is our odds of catching covid are greater than a potentially fatal automobile accident.

You can do it if you choose, but society can prohibit you from being around other people, and I can make you pay more for insurance

Doctors and media should have emphasized this from the beginning and kept it up. The fact that the vaccine may not keep you from getting it, but you more than likely won’t end up in the hospital.

obeying the speed limit and driving sober. Anything you can do to help prevent infection or an auto accident is worth doing. And that goes for everyone else in your orbit or on the road.

When confronted on getting the shot, they point out that "You can still get Covid with the vaccine", The implication being that it's a 50/50 deal, where half those infected are vaxxed and the other half aren't. it's a way of saying vaccines don't work.

I don't let them get away with that simple minded excuse.

Aka breakthrough infections.

Sometimes you even die. But my odds are WAY better with the seatbelt vs without. Damn right I buckle up every time.

Another good analogy I've used at work for guys who were in the military, or just love guns, is body armor. Does wearing Kevlar and a trauma plate make you unkillable? No, but it improves your odds if you get shot at. Would you go into combat without armor?

Very similar to today.

"What if the car catches fire, and then the seatbelt latch won't open, and you're trapped in your seatbelt while you burn to death?"

My SIL called them seat chains and that wearing one made you a slave.

And then there is pointing out news stories where someone dies in a car accident while wearing a seatbelt, which proves seat belts don't work.

Requiring seatbelts is just a power play by the government, who wants to take away your choice and control every aspect of your life.

It's just an excuse for cops to hassle you.

People are getting rich off of them and paying politicians to force them on us.

they greatly reduce the length of time you're spreading it around to others. Even with a breakthrough infection, you shed less virus and for a shorter period of time. In a heavily immunized population, a virus can't find enough new hosts to continue the spread and eventually it peters out.
