REPUBLICANS utilized the 14th Amendment to bar certain people from holding future office. It will be laughable to hear why the current Repubs will oppose it now.

As far as "other crimes" that is about as broad as you can get. Maybe a little more specific?

shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

If a law has not been passed to that effect already I think it should. About felons, they probably should be eligible to run for office after they have severed their prison time, but not before. I am all for giving people a second chance.

But the problem is that they have to be convicted of those crimes first. And unfortunately, Trump has not been convicted of anything yet. And it has to be a criminal conviction. A civil judgment against him will not stop him from running. Of course, Trump's strategy is to try to drag out the legal process until the Republicans can take control again. That's why we have to work so hard to see that we win the 2022 and 2024 elections.

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
