How the both-sides media would cover a successful Trump coup

So good and so depressing — @ThePlumLineGS writes the “both sides” article some in the media will write if Trump successfully overturns the election next time and ends our democracy.

If you’re neutral in the face of insurrection, you’re enabling it.

What both-sidesing press coverage of a stolen 2024 election might look like.

There is a tremendous amount of terrific journalistic work being done documenting Donald Trump’s ongoing efforts to destroy democracy and his party’s eager acquiescence in them. But there’s still a great deal of both-sidesing going on in coverage of our national effort to reckon with the legacy of Jan. 6.

So here’s an effort to imagine what such both-sides coverage would look like if Trump were to succeed in overturning the 2024 election via means similar to what he attempted in 2020.

It goes without saying that this scenario is highly unlikely. But the point of this exercise is to probe just how much more it would take to break us out of some of these both-sidesing conventions.

Some of the devices parodied here continue to be widespread, as links in this piece to real examples demonstrate. What follows is a fictional article.

Of course the Reich Wing media would cover the both sides BS. If President Biden makes one mistake while speaking, every media outlet goes on about hoe he's losing it. Meanwhile the Orange Cheeto could not put a coherent sentence together. I bet that if this scenario worked out and Cheeto started rounding up his enemies and putting them into reeducation camps, the media would act the same way.Let's face it, 95% of the media is right wing.

The economy must then be brought to a halt and all jurisdictions in a position to do so must resist that fascist order.

To everyone who tells me that there are two sides, I say:

On some issues there are many sides, mostly dealing with implementation.

On human rights and voting rights there is only one true side: Yes.
