After seeing another story, of yet another Retrumplican elected official telling teachers that they "must present the 'other' side, and be 'neutral' when discussing the Holocaust", I became "agitated".
This is at least the second time Retrumplican elected officials have voiced their desire to "bothsiderize" the extermination of an entire race of people, but that's only because they said the quiet part out loud.
Combine this with America's long standing history of teaching the "good and bad" of slavery, and one comes to the conclusion that we are in serious trouble.
Maybe the media ought to stop fixating on whatever comes out of Joe Manchin's piehole, or who Senator Schumer is having dinner with, and start asking Mitch, Lindsey and Mitt to explain the "neutral" side of men, women and children being gassed and incinerated.
Look, we can ridicule and take these POS Retrumplicans to task for letting slip their true character and values, BUT OUR FUCKING NEIGHBORS ELECTED THEM TO POWER!
The same people that knew exactly who the fuck Donnie Dipshit was, but pulled the lever for him anyway, are the same people who knew exactly what kind of Nazi sympathizing asspickles they are electing to public office.
Yeah, Retrumplicans that see some "neutrality" in the Holocaust are disgusting Nazi turds, but we shouldn't forget
- they were elected by a majority of our neighbors
- they are welcomed and elevated by the Retrumplican Party
- they are funded by corporate donors, some of which we probably support by buying their products and services
- they are supported and groomed by local and national Hate Radio stations
and, there are thousands of them in national, state and local elected office. Most of them don't say the quiet stuff out loud.
Businesses and wealthy people fund them.
Radio Stations provide aid and comfort to them.
Any business that donated money to their campaigns should be boycotted to ruin.
Any local business in their districts that supported them should be boycotted to bankruptcy.
That is the "peaceful" way to defeat Nazis.
I hope people realize that if we don't start getting serious about using the peaceful tools at our disposal to crush nazis and fascists, we are going to eventually have to do it the hard way.
So yeah, those that want a "neutral" teaching approach to the Holocaust are Nazi fucksticks, but they didn't just miraculously trip and fall into elected office.
You know, when I was in boot camp in the Navy, Seaman Recruit Gundeck had a "catch-edge" sheet. The Company Commander made us ALL do 8-count Body-Builders until our arms and legs were involuntarily shaking.
The days of Blanket Parties and "Code-Reds" were long over by the time I was in boot camp, so now, we didn't beat the craps out of Seaman Recruit Gundeck, but we sure as hell made it clear, that if he wanted to become part of your society, he has better get his shit together in one sock.
People that send these types of nutsacks to office have given up their right to be welcome in civil society.

(2,974 posts)Since the insurrection, 717 corporations and industry groups have funneled over $18 million to the re-election of members of Congress who objected to the 2020 presidential election results. As calls for insurrection accountability reach the one year mark, one thing is for certain: our democracy cannot recover from the insurrection while Corporate America continues to spend millions of dollars bankrolling seditionist members of Congress.

"None of this will ever change. The racism, fascism, misogyny, hatred and white supremacy...NONE OF IT will change, unless and until we make racism, fascism, misogyny, hatred and white supremacy unprofitable to the corporations that fund it"

(25 posts)I understand the feeling perfectly. Up 'til a fairly short while ago (2016, to be exact), I thought the majority of people in this country were fundamentally decent. But having seen T****get 74 million votes in 2020 I now realize that there are a HUGE amount of people in this country that will willingly vote for a serial liar and wanna-be dictator. It's really depressing.

(1,521 posts)My not knowing this renders your post semi-intelligible. I get that it is bad, but what is it and why did it set off your CO?
Please. A brief explanation.
In boot camp, we were trained to make our beds so that when you fold back the top sheet, the hem side is down.
If you look at the hem of a sheet, one side is smooth. The other side of the hem is where it's folded and sewn. Run your finger down a sheet, and it will catch at the hem where it's folded and sewn. Run it down the other side, and it won't catch on the hem.
Look, it's kind of silly, but a lot of what we did in boot camp was training to follow rules and regulations. If you couldn't follow the instructions for making your rack properly, how could you work on multi-million dollar aircraft.
It is stressed that our military regulations are written in blood. Most regs are the result of someone getting killed or injured.
It was just a way to stress that even the insignificant things are important.
True sea story: Had an Aviation Structural Mechanic doing maintenance on an F18 in the hangar. He failed to follow the instructions to "safe the seat". The seat ejector fired and slammed him into the ceiling of the hangar.
That's why the Company Commanders (called Drill Instructors in the Marines) get pissed when you don't follow instructions.
Hope this clarifies.

(8,923 posts)I want to point out that your description of the exercise punishment used in Navy boot camps is quite the literal description from my own experience. Dont know when you went through but for me, was during Vietnam, and we still had blanket parties in which the RCPOs and the Company Commander looked the other way.
We were also randomly singled out in which the objective was to try to make someone break under pressure. Following an inspection in which a fictitious hair was discovered on my chin, I went through exercise punishment that lasted 3 days, called grass parties, in morning and evening sessions, before the Company Commander finally let up trying to make me break. Today, I have partial paralysis from spine damage. I dont know if that physical abuse contributed to it, but Im not discounting it either.
Not to detract from the main point of your OP, which I recd, but this comment brought back personal memories for me.
