They told you that Covid was a hoax
They told you it would disappear in the spring
They told you it was no worse than the flu
They told you that you could cure it by injecting disinfectants
They told you that you could treat it with horse de-wormer
They told you children were immune
They told you the vaccine was fatal
And you believed it all.
They told you the election was 'stolen'
They told you they had the 'evidence'
They told you that their audits would show it
They told you that their lawyers could prove it in court
And you believed it all.
They told you January 6 was 'just another tourist day' at the Capitol
They told you it was BLM, antifa, and the Democrats who rioted
They told you it was the FBI staging a false flag operation
They told you it was a peaceful protest
They even told you it actually never happened
And you believed it all.
If you've ever wondered why intelligent people think RWers are gullible fools, consider all of the above. It only takes a modicum of common sense to understand that only those with NO common sense believe in stories that change every day, in 'facts' that are often contradictory, or in an endless litany of predictions that never come to fruition.
Mike Lindell et al have yet to produce any evidence of a stolen election, Giuliani and Powell lost all of their court cases, prominent anti-vaxxers have died of Covid, and those who know what happened on January 6th are refusing to even discuss that knowledge, no less testify about it under oath.
It truly boggles the mind that anyone with a functioning brain can continue to ignore the obvious - but then, I'm not a member of the party that believes in Jewish Space Lasers, liberals eating children sacrificed in the basement of a DC pizza place, or drinking my own urine while awaiting JFK Jr. to resurrect himself from the dead in order to run as Trump's vice-president in 2024.

(18,870 posts)They just turn off the parts that don't make sense.
At least that has been my experience. I don't think it has ever occurred to them what affect what they are espousing would have on their daily lives. They like houses and electricity and heat and air conditioning. They like living in their subdivision where they send their kids to good public schools. And on and on.
Even the most radical like their trucks and being able to drive on roads
They simply haven't thought this through. They should look at how most Russians live.

(3,976 posts)Don't you dare have your own ideas or opinions that are different from the official line. My mother is a Talibangelist and her hobby is Armageddon. Back when we were speaking, I would ask her questions about some of her really crazy religious end-timer beliefs and when she didn't have an answer, she'd get angry and then change the subject. I once told her I was afraid that she was in a cult and she got so pissed off, jumped up, pointing her finger at me and yelling, "You're the one in the cult!" I don't need religion; I have a conscience, a working brain, empathy, and my own opinions on things. Of course, she's a MAGAt too. SMH

That and the draft, where so many were forced to participate, unless of course, you suffered from fake bone spurs and declared that "your Vietnam" was actively trying to avoid STDs while being a sexual predator.

(2,443 posts)...almost a half a BILLION vaccines have been administered in the U.S. so there's not a shortage of vaccines, which Biden may have some influence on. But he cannot force people to get vaccinated without a vaccine mandate and we all know how they feel about that. So the failure is on those who refuse to get vaccinated, not on President Biden. He did his part. They're the ones who've refused the most basic measures to stem the spread of the virus. It's their failure, not President Biden's.

Among other things, you expected Donald Trump to remain president. You expected mass arrests and public executions. You expected an underground cabal of child-trafficking Democrats to finally be captured.
None of those things happened.
Instead, Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States. So if youre one of those people perhaps millions who were deeply invested in the various QAnon conspiracy theories, the past few weeks likely produced an immense amount of dissonance.

(5,157 posts)Under normal circumstances. These days, 'normal' does not even come close to applying. Let's take North Carolina as an example. If we look at image one... this is the result of the 2020 map that got canned by the courts and the Assembly was told to redraw it. They did so... twice. As you can see, rethugs were able to get 8 seats with 49% of the vote, while Democrats got 5 with 50% of the vote. If the run was a close one, these numbers pretty much stay the same, favoring the rethugs.
Now let's look at the newest results. It is under review and there have already been suits filed to change it. (For the fourth time.) Notice that, although the spread does kind of look more equitable at a glance, the numbers show that now, the rethugs would win TEN seats in a close election while the Democrats would get four. Maybe.
So, it would appear that merely 'getting out the vote' will be ineffectual in North Carolina. And, they have become the blueprint (or the redprint in this case I guess) for other states who are doing or have done the same type of thing. It is going to take removing the rethug party from the field to ever hope to fix this mess. They must be 'defanged'. Trouble is... that is not happening, and will not happen any time soon. (I still don't even see a house arrest monitor on any of the orange gibbon's co-conspirators. And, that crap happened in front of the entire world. Not even a harsh glance for the ones who were behind the entire thing.) So, states have been or are being gerrymandered to make electing anyone but them all but impossible. Confidence in our institutions is flagging because of perceived inaction and lack of progressive direction.
I did not say we had lost, but it sure looks like losing to me. Take it from a complete failure... I know what losing looks like.

(369 posts)Ridicule.
They need to be ridiculed. Yeah it's a little mean, but ridicule has a valid place in public discord. (of course the righties have weaponized it)
I was talking with a friend about this and he said "yes their ideas are RIDICULOUS...".
Then i realized I've been trying logic, forget that. They've fortified their minds against that, but Ridicule someone over this stuff and that will sink in.
Have you ever known that coworker who doesn't listen over and over. You can say it again and it will still pass through one more time, but make fun of him not listening, then his ears will pick up.
That's where we have to go from here, we tried being nice, and logical, and patient, now it's time to ridicule the stupid shit they want to believe.
Practice loudly unpacking the stupid chain of idiocy:
"So i need to believe that millions of 'dumb' migrants somehow cast millions of illegal votes in hundreds of jurisdictions, and then covered it up, without leaving a shred of evidence behind? I mean the only people who i see getting busted for voter fraud are comfy republicans in the villages. Are you telling me that a million Mexicans can all simultaneously commit the perfect crime, but well heeled republican retirees are just too stupid to manage it?
Is that what you expect me to believe?"
etc...
We need to get back to ridiculing the ridiculous.
Tommymac

The could care less bout logic and facts and science - but understand a good public shaming and laugh fest.
That is why TLP had such success n 2020 - they targeted their laughter specifically at TFG and made sure that those clips were seen on TV in the White House if nowhere else.
Make them mad and they do really really stupid things trying to defend their honor. Win/Win scenario.

(768 posts)It's easy to discount the Radical Right as "gullible fools" but we can't forget that they have the power to destroy everything we've worked to achieve here in America.
The neo-fascists have the roadmap in hand to the next successful coup and they have the propaganda machine to make it happen. Where is our roadmap to defend our democracy? Democrats and apathetic Americans have been living in la-la land far too long.
It's easy and feels good to dismiss the right-wingers as bumbling idiots but we have to understand that these idiots may well have their boot on our necks in 2025.

(239 posts)The fact is that right-wingers are morons. Plain and simple. The farther Right you are the dumber you are. I know many right-wingers and they believe absolute bullshit. Everything from Democrats are baby-eating Satan worshipers to Christians are being massively persecuted in this country to drinking your own urine cures Covid! (Yes drinking urine to fight Covid is apparently a thing now!) The idiocy never seems to end. But when you try to dissuade them from their beliefs with things like facts and logic they laugh at you and call you a "sheep" or a "Kool-Aid drinker". They know the REAL story you see! I just accept everything scientists and the medical establish tell me, not realizing that these "elites" are all part of the Globalist conspiracy to turn the world Communist! Ho, ho, ho what a fool I am. They are awaken and see the world as it really is! >sigh<
Seriously, we have a HUGE problem on our hands when it comes to the Right. A large, and seemingly growing, segment of our society has thrust common sense to the side They believe total nonsense and see no contradictions in their every changing narrative. (One glaring example is who were the January 6th rioters. On the one hand they were "patriots" trying to stop a fraudulent election and now these "hero's are unfairly in prison. But, on the other hand, the January 6th rioters were made up of Antifa and the FBI rioting just to make Trump look bad! Which is it? But they seem to believe both narratives simultaneously! How?)
These people don't care about democracy. They WANT fascism. They WANT strong-man rule. And yet at the same time they thump their chests about how much they "love freedom". It's insane! I can't wrap my brain around how these people think. (Or don't think.) We are living in dangerous times and if things don't change we are headed for the 4th Reich! Seriously!
